Welcome to the Virginia Civil Air Patrol

The auxiliary of the United States Air Force.

spacer The Virginia Wing began its service to the citizens of Virginia in 1941 with private pilots flying their own aircraft looking for German submarines all along the Virginia Coastline. It has continued to provide service to the Commonwealth by participating in lost person searches, performing reconnaissance during natural disasters, providing radio communications, searching for missing aircraft, teaching teenagers about honor and respect, and informing our members and the public about the importance of aviation and aerospace.

We have 24 units located all over the Commonwealth, with 1500 members. We fly a fleet of 11 aircraft Cessna 172 and 182s including five glass cockpit aircraft. We have an extensive repeater radio network and long distance high frequency radios that allow us to communicate over much of the state during emergencies.
