Computing Sector Controlled Access

The Computing Sector has controlled access areas in the FCC (Feynman Computing Center) building, LCC (Lattice Computing Center), GCC (Grid Computing Center), and Wilson Hall 8 - Fiber Central Room. In addition to standard door locks in many areas, ID card readers are utilized where operating environments and/or asset value is important, e.g. Computer Rooms and Storage Areas. Card readers read employee ID and expiration date information coded onto the cards. Doors controlled by card readers have electronic locks, which are programmed dynamically through our building computer.  Security access logs are reviewed daily for expired entry cards and unauthorized access. The security database is updated as appropriate.

Obtaining access initially or if you are requesting additional access:

Our building managers must receive: Computing Division ID Card Security Access Activation form filled out and approved and signed from your supervisor before access can be granted. Fermi ID cards should be presented to our building manager located in FCC1E, room 144, x3537, or x2700 after completing the appropriate training: Performing work in CD Computer Rooms & CD Hazard Analysis [CD000003/CR/01]. Employees need to have taken New Employee/User ES&H Orientation [FN000034/CR/00]. Contractors must be up to date on their Fermilab Sub-Contractor Safety Orientation class [FN000221/CR]. Information will then be entered into our security system to allow card access to areas where you need to work.

Obtaining access upon renewal of your Fermilab ID:

Our building managers must receive: Computing Division ID Card Security Access Activation form filled out and approved and signed from your supervisor before access can be granted. New and renewed Fermi ID cards should be presented to our building manager located in FCC1E, room 144, x3537, or x2700 after completing the appropriate training: Performing work in CD Computer Rooms & CD Hazard Analysis [CD000003/CR/01].

Once your Fermilab ID card expires, you cannot enter the computer rooms via the card readers. You must re-apply for entry authorization by presenting your new card to Facility Operations and/or the Key/ID office, and re-certify the required training so the physical security system can be updated.

For contractors who do not have access to the training url's listed above, the construction coordinator/task manager may print out the Performing work in CD Computer Rooms & CD Hazard Analysis [CD000003/CR/01] documents, have the contractor read and sign the documents. Then the documents should be given to the Sector/Division/Section Safety Officier to be entered into the ESH Train system. The documents are located in Docdb at Procedures for Performing Work in CD Computer Rooms & Computer Room Hazard Analysis.
