Historic Huffman

spacer Huffman Historic Area is part of the Historic Inner East neighborhood, about one mile east of downtown Dayton, Ohio. The homes of Huffman Historic present one of the strongest samplings of nineteenth-century architecture, including Queen Anne, Victorian Italianate, Italian Villa and Victorian Gothic. Residences were constructed for a cross-section of citizens, such as blue-collar workers, artisans, merchants and managers.

The Huffman neighborhood was built from the 1860s to the 1890s, largely under the guidance of William P. Huffman, banker, real estate developer and founder of Huffman Manufacturing and the Huffy Bicycle Company. The original Huffy factory is located on Linden Avenue, two blocks south of the Huffman Historic Area. It is this link to Huffy that inspired the use of a bicycle in our logo.

Huffman is a 10-square-block neighborhood within two minutes of Downtown and major highways. The spacer neighborhood houses Huffman Place, a retirement community in a restored school building, the Southeast Priority Board, in a restored Carnegie Library building, the beautiful Harris Funeral Home, as well as several historic churches, pocket parks, and Hispanic-owned businesses. The district was designated the city’s sixth historic district in 1981.

Housing prices in the Huffman Historic Area are still among the most affordable in Dayton. You will discover homes in nearly every stage of restoration – from completely refinished homes that blend Victorian charm with modern convenience to homes waiting for the attention and imagination of the adventurous renovator.

spacer The Historic Huffman Neighborhood Association fosters neighbor-to-neighbor relationships by sponsoring activities such as a Victorian tea, Christmas trolley tours and informal gatherings and picnics. The neighborhood association also works closely with the city to continually improve the quality of life for Huffman residents.

If you are looking for a place to put down roots, make friends and become part of a diverse community, then come home to Huffman.
