Method Tenspeed Hero Bike

Introducing the Method / Tenspeed Hero Limited Edition Bicycle. We have been riding this bike for the better part of the summer. It has been ridden on paved and gravel roads of Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin. All we can say is we love this bike.

We are happy to announce its maker Garry Alderman of Method Bicycle is taking orders on this beautiful machine. This build evolved out of a need to craft the ultimate continental road machine, painted in a one of a kind scheme that represents the ultimate Hero identity. The frame and geometry was designed and crafted to be light, responsive, and purposeful for discovering miles of open roads or descending down steep mountain paths. An edition of 6, each will be made to order and available for purchase. Customized for fit and componentry for each order, the framesets are listed at $2,700 and complete builds start at $4,800 and up based on selections. Please email garry@methodbicycle.com and visit www.methodbicycle.com for additional info and current lead time.

The creation of this bike was not done without several generous souls and professionals. First Garry Alderman is like all craftsmen, mad about every detail. Conceiving and building a custom frame with Garry was made up a million moments and we suppose it all started at our first meeting over coffee, then moving quickly to his shop for bike fitting, looking over his sketches, Ordering the tube-set, brazing, filing and then on to design, layout, then masking and paint.

To honor the process and frame we acquired some Campagnolo Super Record 11 components and scraped together some of our favorite classics like some Deda Campiones and Campagnolo Hyperon Ultras. This bike is light and tough, a bit classic and oh so modern.

We all agreed that we wanted a versatile road machine that you could still throw some 28mm tires on for dirt roads but something you could also race in a criterium. It had to snappy and smooth on hairy descents.

As this was a TSH club bike we wanted to take our color bands and apply them in an interesting way. Our very own Becca Goesling worked with Garry on the scheme.

In a one question interview she offered up these thoughts:

β€œThe color bands are based off of the Ellsworth Kelly painting at the Art Institute of Chicago, just like the jersey. My interest in the organization was trying to keep his interests in mind, which were the relationships of the colors in a specific order on a specific background. He cared about the colors interacting with one another against a white wall. I cared about the colors interacting with one another against the negative space in which the bike will be placed. I wanted to see how the colors live in different spaces. This is why I was interested in letting one end live in a moving gallery (the white) and others live in the environment the cyclist chooses. I like to see how the relationships between the bands change based on what you provide as a backdrop. After exploring numerous options for the basic frame color, it became clear black was the most appropriate so as to allow the text to fall in and out of the paint scheme, at some points bringing them to the forefront of the design and at others requiring them to be discovered. It seemed fitting for TSH, the mixture of subtlety and outrageousness.”

Paint was applied by master painter Duane at Chester Cycles. We owe him and Garry beers for life for three days of masking.

You will see this bike in a million posts to come. It will be our traveling companion for late summer, fall, winter and spring riding for years to come. Who knows it may go to Europe and Japan.

Big Thanks go to Garry Alderman from Method Bicycle, Duane at Chester Cycles, and Becca Goesling from Tenspeed Hero.
