REDGUM BLACK RGi35ENR Integrated Amplifier Review
Tuesday, 15 December 2015 ,  Written by Andre Marc

REDGUM Audio has been producing beautiful looking and high value audiophile amplifiers in the state of Victoria, Australia for the past twenty-one years. REDGUM has never produced cookie cutter products. Their designs, as far as form factor and ergonomics are proudly off the beaten path, and probably because of this, they have loyal customer base.My awareness of REDGUM comes from reading numerous overseas reviews, and speaking to a few local audiophiles who have been happily running Redgum amps for a number of years in various systems. Although REDGUM has international and North American distributors, I had not come across their products myself. That all changed when Marc Phillips of Colleen Cardas Imports contacted me about reviewing the new Black series of amplifiers. The Black series was designed to drive difficult speaker loads. I immediately agreed, as the timing was just ...

Simaudio 760A Power Amplifier Review

Canadian firm Simaudio is held in the highest regard for its engineering-driven, no compromise approach to designing audio components. Their products are also considered works of art by many, with their futuristic industrial design and superior build quality. Their Neo 380D DAC and MOON 180D streamer remain in-house references. Digital products aside, Simaudio has always been known for producing state of the art amplification. Their top shelf Evolution series offers robust power and stellar casework across preamplifiers, power amplifiers, and integrated amps. Simaudio sent along their Evolution 760A power amplifier for review, which retails for $8000. The 760A is the first in line in the Evolution series, and is packed with some of Simaudio’s best technology.DesignThe chassis design and build quality are superb, with attention to detail in the construction, binding posts, and connectors being off the charts. The amplifier ...

Denon PMA-50 Integrated Amplifier Review

Denon, the longstanding electronics firm now owned by D&M, produces products for virtually every market. They also have prided themselves on staying ahead of the curve with new technologies, designing products stuffed with features at too-good-to-be-true prices.Recently, I reviewed (and loved) the wonderful Denon HEOS distributed audio system, which was like a Sonos on steroids, and very affordable. The Denon AV Receivers are also superb, as are their line of high-end hifi components. This includes turntables, DACs, and network players. Last year I had the Denon DA-300USB DSD DAC in, and came away very impressed. Denon has again responded to the market with an affordable, multi faceted integrated amplifier. Packed with features, the new $599 PMA-50 is basically a one-box solution, and is virtually future proof. The PMA-50's amplifier section incorporates DDFA technology from CSR. Its Class D amplifier is ...

CLONES Audio 25iR Integrated Amplifier Review

CLONES Audio out Hong Kong, has enjoyed an amazing amount of awareness stateside generated in a very short period of time. This is due to positive reviews, and international distribution. On these pages I reviewed the 25p power amplifier, which I subsequently purchased and use in regular rotation with my usual stable of amps.Since that review, CLONES and its proprietor, Funjoe, have been mighty busy, bringing to market several new products, and upgrades to others. Funjoe is tireless, and his pursuit of perfection is very admirable. There have also been some logistical changes as well, with CLONES going through several distribution arrangements. Late last year, Mark Sossa, of Well Pleased AV, signed on to become to the US importer and dealer of record. Sossa is a seasoned veteran, highly knowledgeable, and very gracious. All things point to a good marriage. ...

Marantz SR7009 Home Theater Receiver Review
Monday, 26 January 2015 ,  Written by Andre Marc

Marantz is on one heck of a roll. Over the past five years I have had the opportunity to evaluate a slew of their products, from reference-level hifi to entry-level home theater. Some products I liked more than others, but all offered very good performance and value. Some particular favorites were the entry-level PM/CD5005 combo, and just last month the fantastically good $799 HD-DAC1. Their flagship streamer and reference series SACD players/DSD DACs are absolutely superb. Marantz does the rare thing in today’s market, straddling the line between audiophile, two-channel products, and state of art multi-channel home theater. And they do it very well.  At all price points. Marantz sent me the new flagship SR7009 receiver, equipped with their very latest technology. Retailing for $1999, the SR7009 is a 30 Lb beast that, when removed from the box, impresses from ...
