Tools of ImaginAction

This is ImaginAction’s introductory workshop. Blending a variety of theatre arts–image theatre, improvisation, storytelling, drumming, contact dance, creative ritual and Theatre of the Oppressed–this workshop is appropriate for a broad range of groups interested in exploring issues in their community in a playful, curious way.

How much time do we need?

This workshop is extremely flexible, great for groups with three hours, three days or three weeks to spend playing and exploring topics. The more time a group has, the more deeply they can pursue ideas and experience a wide variety of techniques–all the way from games and exercises to fully realized forum theatre performances. An ideal workshop session would last a minimum of 2-3 hours.

Who’s this workshop for?

Tools of ImaginAction is appropriate for any community group interested in facilitating dialog about the challenges and oppression particular to life in their corner of the world. These techniques have served at-risk youth in Northern Ireland and Southern California; refugees in Palestine; women in Afghanistan and teachers in Norway, among many others.

What does it look like?

The video below was shot over a four-week Tools of ImaginAction residency in Derry, Northern Ireland.
