dupeGuru - Locate duplicate files on your hard drive
Duplicate files are a waste of good disk space, but you can find many applications for locating and erasing them. Some of these applications are difficult to handle and you may find yourself with a blank results list because you failed to set up the search criteria correctly. dupeGuru's settings are much easier to understand and it works faster as well. The interface has a simple design, making it possible to find cloned files without any difficulties.
dupeGuru comes in various versions, for Windows, Mac and Linux. The size of the setup file differs from one edition to another, but you can download any version swiftly. If you choose the Windows edition, you can use it on XP, Vista or Win 7, without using too many resources.
The application can search for duplicate files in one or more folders of your choosing. You can target the folders by adding them to a list, on dupeGuru's small interface. Once they are added, you may click the Scan button, in the lower right corner of the window. The results are listed on a separate window, where you can find options for filtering them to show only duplicates, mark them and perform a certain action, like deleting the marked items, sending them to a different folder, adding them to an ignore list, invoking a custom command and more.
The results list can be saved as a file, in the software's own format and loaded at any time. It is also possible to export the list in HTML format and view it on your default web browser. There are various configurations to make in dupeGuru's preferences panel. You can set the program to scan by contents, folders or file names, to match similar words, ignore files which are smaller than a given number and more.
Pros:
dupeGuru is fast and efficient. It will find duplicate files, regardless of their format. The software lets you select one of three scanning methods and set up other parameters as well.
Cons:
There are no issues that can slow you down.
File formats or sizes do not matter when using dupeGuru. If two files are similar, the software will find them.
