The College of Southern Idaho Career and Counseling Services fosters students, prospective students and alumni as well as community members in their search for meaningful career and life goals by providing individuals with a career development strategy as well as empowering them to self manage the process during their lifetime.

Students, alumni and community members are welcome to visit the CSI Career Center, located in the northeast wing of the SUB (Taylor 174).  We provide guidance in:

  • Career exploration
  • Job search preparation

CSI Counseling Services are available for career exploration, test anxiety and short-term personal needs, with referrals as necessary.

The Center for New Directions, thanks to funding by Carl Perkins legislation, supports Single parents and Non-Traditional Occupations by gender, particularly women.  Middle and High school girls from schools throughout the Magic Valley attend an annual Girls in Technology conference on the CSI campus.

Free Resources and Consultation Available Year-Round

  • Career Exploration:
Students and community members are welcome to visit the Career Center and browse information about occupations and how to get the training to reach your goals.  We provide free access to MyPlan.com, a career assessment site that customizes a list of career matches and provides details on over 800 occupations, as well as Idaho Career Information System, administered by the Department of Labor, a great resource for exploring the pay, job outlook and educational path for 800 careers.  Counselors are available weekdays and evenings to consult with you individually and help you explore options and develop a plan.  The Career Center is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is located in the Taylor Building, Room 174 in the SUB.  Please call (208) 732-6259 for more information or to have access codes emailed to you.
  • Successful Job Seeking:
Presenting yourself professionally is a necessary skill not only when you want to find your dream job after college, but in many other situations, such as applying for higher education programs, internships, work study and part time jobs.  The job search process is much less intimidating when you're prepared. Stop by the Career Center or call 732-6259 to see how easy it can be to create your resume with Resumes for America.  You can make an appointment to meet with a career counselor to help you with job search strategies including interviewing skills.During your career counseling appointment you will learn how to use resumes, cover letters and applications to your best advantage; what to expect during an interview, and techniques for presenting your strengths and transferrable skills. Bring your application form, resume, and cover letter or create these documents using the online tools introduced during the appointment.  Career counselors are available weekdays and evenings to consult with you individually.  The Career Center is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is located in the Taylor Building, Room 174 in the SUB.  Please call (208) 732-6259 for more information or to set up an appointment.
  • Test Anxiety:
A person may have Test Anxiety if they...
    • usually earn A’s and B’s on homework assignments,
    • study thoroughly
    • have a good understanding of the course material, AND
    • become so stressed out over tests that they prevent themselves from demonstrating their mastery of the exam content.
Research indicates that approximately 20% of all college students experience some form of test anxiety, ranging from mild “butterflies in the stomach” sensations to full-blown panic attacks. CSI Career and Counseling Services offers a workshop aimed at teaching students how to better manage their test anxiety. This free, highly effective 5-week long course incorporates a progressive relaxation technique, a systematic desensitization process, study skills, and a brief look at ways our lifestyles affect our anxiety reaction. Students may either attend workshops offered twice each semester or make appointments to meet with a CSI Counselor to cover the material individually. Please call 732-6260 for times, dates, location, and to sign up for the class.
