hardhack at Toorcamp 2012 August 8-12 outside Seattle

spacer

hardhack will have a tent at Toorcamp this year! we’ve been on pause for a few years, and we’re back. Toorcamp will be a fun camping hacker event in a beautiful coastal location about a four hour drive from Seattle, Washington. do you have a hardware project you would like to workshop-ize? entry to Toorcamp is reimbursed for those accepted to throw a workshop in the hardhack tent. if you are interested in doing a hands-on workshop, please contact us at mail@hardhack.org with all or part of the following information:

* workshop/demo title
* workshop/demo description
* workshop/demo time requirement (please estimate as well as you can)
* your contact info: email, website, cellphone number
* approximate parts cost for participants (kits or other materials you will provide)
* required and suggested materials for participants to bring (examples: laptop, usb/serial adaptor, hackable stuff)
* any questions you may have

time slots are long, tables are plentiful, power and lamps and soldering irons are provided as well as some small tools for participants. it’s hard work prepping a hands-on workshop, and we take care of your infrastructure. we aren’t super keen on slides or projectors for hands-on hardware workshops, talk to us and we’ll help prep your learning material as url’s you can share with participants or in the worst case on dead trees. workshops can be anywhere from beginner to extreme advanced electrical engineer. plenty of smart people will be at Toorcamp and lots will be excited to get their hands dirty with new hardware.

there is no particular theme for the workshops, but a few ideas to get you going are: plant monitoring, space antenna networks, robotics, radio projects, alternative energy hardware, textile machine hacking, audio projects, waterproof sensors, wearables, privacy through hardware, and why not, blinky stuff. if you require sign-ups for your workshop, let us know and we can help you out with that too! if you’ve never thrown a hardware workshop, we can help get you prepped. we also have a bit of room available (more if weather is nice) for hardware demos. if you have a project that is more of a show-and-tell than something people can do hands-on, that’s ok too, let us know! see you in the rainforest on the beach at Toorcamp in a few months.

arduino paper automaton workshop at froscon

spacer

hi hardhackers! hardhack proudly presents an awesomesauce workshop coming up very soon: Manuel Odendahl will conduct an Arduino paper automaton workshop which requires prior registration here. It will be held in the hardhack track at FrOSCon on Saturday, August 21st starting at 10:00 am in room C117 (link to workshop in FrOSCon schedule here). FrOSCon is located in Sankt Augustin, outside of Bonn and near Cologne in Germany.

a snippet from Manuel’s description of the hands-on workshop: “We will build a paper automaton, animate it with servos connected an arduino, and control it using processing. We first begin by cutting small mechanisms out of paper, glueing them together, coloring them. In a second step, we program an arduino and connect it to servos to animate the paper automaton. In a third step, we control the arduino through processing, making the automaton move according to music or other user inputs.

The places are limited to 8 people.”

So get over to his registration page, and come join us for another installment of hardhack replete with makerbots, lots of arduino action, big blinky led installations, fnordlichts, and much moar hands-on action!
