Biology

From cells and molecules to organisms and ecosystems, biology majors study life at all levels, at home and abroad. You will have access to extraordinary research opportunities, which include exploring ecology and marine biology in Australia or researching cancer, obesity, aging, thermoregulation, bioremediation, neurotoxicity, skeletal development, gene and organismal evolution, spider ecology and marine biology in laboratories on campus and in the field.

Through small classes, labs, hands-on research opportunities and personal advising, biology students receive a solid foundation in all areas of biology that prepares them for more than 200 biology-related careers and provides the groundwork for professional training in medicine, dentistry and other health sciences.

The Department of Biology offers the following programs:

» B.S. or B.A. in Biology

» B.S. in Neuroscience (with Adelphi’s Derner Institute)

» M.S. in Biology

» Minor in Biology

» M.S. in Biology with a concentration in Biotechnology

Students may consider joint degree programs in dentistry, medicine or optometry, or the pre-health preparation program.

Biology majors can also enter the Scholar Teacher Education Program in the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education.
