SUMMARY

Enacts the Teacher Protection Academic Freedom Act, which as introduced, protects a teacher from discipline for teaching scientific subjects in an objective manner. – Amends TCA Title 49, Chapter 6, Part 10.

Senate:  Substituted for the House version of this bill on 03/19/2012, as amended by the Senate.

House:  Adopted on 04/07/2011 and subsequently amended on 03/26/2012. Became law without the Governor’s signature on 4/17/2012.

FACT’S ANALYSIS

This bill would make it clear that schools should create an atmosphere conducive to questioning scientific theories and that no teacher can be fired for questioning scientific theories.
