By movita beaucoup on November 2, 2014 in competitions, pumpkin carve-off

The votes have been cast. The Pumpkin Panel has spoken. It is with great pleasure that I officially announce this year’s Pumpkin Carve-Off champs!

1st Place: Lady Tofu’s Superstar Magical Hedgehog

(Chosen by the 2014 Pumpkin Panel.)

Lady Tofu wins a $50.00 Amazon gift card, an autographed copy of The Everyday Squash Cook by Rob Firing, Ivy Knight & Kerry Knight AND a position on the 2014 Ginger Panel! (Unless she wants to enter Ginger 2014. If that is the case, Lady Tofu will appoint a person of her choice to the panel, which is basically an automatic vote in her favour.) Also, because of this competition, Lady Tofu found a long sought after table. Lives have been changed.

2nd Place: Aaron’s Oogie Boogie

(Chosen by the 2014 Pumpkin Panel.)

Aaron wins a $25.00 Amazon gift card AND an autographed copy of The Everyday Squash Cook by Rob Firing, Ivy Knight & Kerry Knight.

2014 People’s Choice Prize: Lan & DW’s Éléphant

(Chosen by the People of the Interwebs through online polling.)

Lan and DW win a $25.00 Amazon gift card AND an autographed copy of The Everyday Squash Cook by Rob Firing, Ivy Knight & Kerry Knight.

. . .

I’d like to send a huge thank you out to all of this year’s competitors. Your pumpkins were amazing! You have to be a little brave and a whole lot crazy to enter a competition like this. Thanks for supporting my blog and for being such good sports.

Thanks also to the Pumpkin Panel for their service and expertise. Especially Rob, who wrote a book in my honour.

Voters, thanks for being so judgemental. I appreciate the time you took to cast your votes in this epic battle of the gourd.

And finally, I’d like to thank each and every one of you who stops by to read my ridiculous blog on the regular. My favourite thing about blogging is you, and I thank you for making this space one of my favourite places to be.

Next stop: Ginger 2014!

I concur with the hedgehog in first place, despite it looking a wee bit like a sideways pineapple with an internal nuclear reactor issue. It certainly got my vote. I cannot even imagine the time that sucker took to carve!

I’m a tad late to this party, but what a great competition you have here, Rachel. Smile-worthy fun for all! I hope you and yours enjoyed a splendid Halloween!

I love my husband so much more now that he has won something… I don’t think he’s ever won anything since we’ve been together (I was really starting to think I might be bad luck)!

That hedgehog, though… IT IS SO GLORIOUSLY AMAZING. I LOVE IT!

i think next Halloween you should choreograph a dance to accompany the oogie boogie song > youtu.be/iy9ha3qLU8Y?t=20s spacer Just a thought…

Amazing! I would like to thank mrs. eats for buying the pumpkin, putting the pumpkin in front of me, and forcing me to carve said pumpkin.

If only every competitor had this kind of nagging support.

Gaaaaaaah I carved Oogie Boogie on my pumpkin this year! I didn’t think it was rad enough to enter your contest but now I see that Aaron’s version won 2nd place! Damnit! I’ll ungraciously and reluctantly congratulate all the winners for their amazing pumpkins.

Aha! That’s what I need — someone to buy me a pumpkin, set it in front of me, and force me to carve it. THEN I’ll enter the pumpkin carve off! That said, there were so many awesome entries this year… well deserved wins from the hedgehog, oogie boogie man, and the elephant. All of those carvings require more skill than I can generally muster on any given day, so bravo to all.
