The Gallery Volunteer role includes supervising the gallery spaces, talking to the public about the art we show and making sure everyone gets as much from the exciting work on offer as possible.

Our visitors come from all over the world, some are families, some are artists and gallery professionals, some are corporate visitors, they are all ages and backgrounds. We're looking for a diverse range of people to welcome them, so if you like art, technology and people, the role is for you.

The galleries open Tuesday - Sunday each week, with morning and afternoon volunteer sessions available, as well as the occasional special evening event.

It’s a great way to meet people, learn about art and enhance your CV, so get in touch if you’d like to be part of our team.

We are currently recruiting volunteers to help present our next exhibition unfold, by Japanese artist and composer Ryoichi Kurokawa. Induction sessions will be taking place on 10 and 13 February - click here for more information.

Please note: places for the session on Wednesday are now fully booked up - please get in touch if you can attend the Saturday session, or if you would like details of future opportunities.

Are you interested in gaining invaluable experience in a leading arts organisation? FACT gives bright and enthusiastic people the opportunity to work in contemporary arts and creative media.

We offer a diverse range of placements within FACT departments, including the Programme, Media Services, Front of House and Marketing teams. Internships normally run for six to 12 weeks and expenses will be covered.

We feel that interns should gain valuable, meaningful experience from their time with us and so we do not offer general internship places. Each department, however, occasionally has projects which would suit an internship and so we recruit specifically for those as and when they arise.

All of our internships are advertised on this page so keep checking back regularly. You can also learn of any opportunities through our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

FACT offers work experience placements as we can to schools, colleges and universities that have students who wish to experience life in the art sector. Work experience gives participant a chance to observe the organisation on a day-to-day basis and start to appreciate the structure of a typical working week.

So that we can offer the best experience possible to the participating students, we limit the amount of monthly placements offered.  This ensures the student will have adequate tasks and work to participate in and can engage well with FACT as an organisation during their time here.

If you are a student who and would like to carry out your work experience at FACT then please contact us with the following information

  • dates of your placement
  • length of placement
  • the name of your school, college or university
  • a statement as to why you would like work experience at FACT

Tagging Communities Project

Are you a Military Veteran? Do you like cycling, heritage and creative technology?

FACT is looking to recruit 10 fully sighted Military Veterans from the Liverpool area, and 10 visually impaired Military Veterans to create a new community heritage project.

The project will result in a FREE app, exploring the heritage of 6 neighborhoods in Liverpool over the last 150 years, celebrating the character and history of these communities.

For the Military Veterans strand of the project, we will develop new audio artworks for the app about specific key points of interest in the areas. Working in partnership with Bradbury Fields Tandem Club we will train Military Veterans as both front riders (fully sighted military veterans) and back riders (military veterans with visual impairments), to create cycling routes around Anfield and Everton.

Once trained you will work with historians and a digital artist to create audio artworks that tell the story of Anfield and Everton.

If you are a fully sighted or visually impaired Military Veteran and would be interested in getting involved then we would love to hear from you.

How to get involved

From May – late November participants will be working with both historians, a digital artist, The Tandem Club and the wider local community to explore the area, test bed trails, routes and create the final new audio work for the Tagging Communities App. These sessions will take place on Wednesdays.

The project will culminate with a celebratory launch event both here in FACT and out in the local neighborhood areas in December 2015.

So if you are interested in cycling, digital work or heritage then please get in touch and don't worry if you are only interested in certain elements of the project, we are still keen to hear from you.

To get in touch please contact Liz at liz.wewiora@fact.co.uk or call 0151 707 4416.

We are delighted to announce applications are now open for the COLLIDE International Award, in collaboration with CERN.

CERN, the renowned European Organisation for Nuclear Research, has partnered with FACT, the UK’s leading media arts centre, for the ambitious residency programme COLLIDE International Award, created to challenge and transform the way art and science encounters are understood.

The competition is open to artists - of any age and from anywhere in the world - whose work reflects on the cultural and social understanding of science and advanced knowledge. More information about the application and guidelines can be found here.

COLLIDE International Award grants an artist a fully funded residency, where the artist will spend the first two months at CERN, Geneva, followed by a one-month stay at FACT in Liverpool.

As the cradle of the World Wide Web and home of the Large Hadron Collider, CERN sees the world’s leading physicists and engineers investigate the fundamental mysteries of our universe. COLLIDE offers the winning artist a highly regarded opportunity to spend time in one of the most important laboratories in the world, providing an inspirational place to explore and extend their research in order to find new artistic approaches.

After the time at CERN, the open and collaborative atmosphere at FACT with its wide ranging programme of exhibitions and participant-led art projects, will offer the artist an excellent setting to reflect on, and contextualise his/her work. As a centre for research and innovation, FACT works with partners across the cultural sector, health, and higher education, such as University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University, to offer unique opportunities for people to engage with ground-breaking new media art from across the world, and explore the relationship between technology and culture at the very forefront of new technology advancements and debates.

The COLLIDE International Award partnership between CERN and FACT is supported by the University of Liverpool. Particle Physicists at the University have played a major role in all of CERN’s collaborative experiments leading analyses as diverse as Higgs studies, how matter and antimatter differ and what dark matter might be composed of. Currently about 50 Liverpool scientists and engineers are involved in particle physics research programmes with CERN.

COLLIDE’s jury is composed of a panel of experts including Monica Bello, Head of Arts@CERN, Geneva (Switzerland); Patrick Gyger, Director of Le Lieu Unique, Nantes (France); Tara Shears, Physicist at LHCb, CERN (Geneva) and at University of Liverpool (United Kingdom); Mike Stubbs, Director at FACT and Professor at Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool (United Kingdom).

The winner of COLLIDE International Award will be announced at the end of June 2016.

COLLIDE International Award is part of the COLLIDE CERN FACT Framework Partnership 2016-2018. COLLIDE is supported by Liverpool City Council, University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University.
