Detroit Red Wings are Men on Fire

AUTHOR: Thomas Biondo | IN: Detroit | COMMENTS: Comments Off

Well, it’s nice to be back to regularly scheduled Red Wing programming.  Remember that 9-7-1 start?  Yeah…I don’t either.  Since then, the Wings have a 21-8 record.  Work that out over the course of the entire season and Detroit would be roughly 60-22.  I’d say that’s righting the ship.  Plus, they haven’t lost at home since November 3rd.  That was 2 and a half months ago.  Are you kidding me?

With VMart out Tigers need to make a move.

AUTHOR: philnorton | IN: Detroit | COMMENTS: Comments Off

It was announced yesterday that Victor Martinez tore his ACL and will likely miss the 2012 season. The Tigers have been very quiet this offseason with moves and this blow will definitely affect the lineup. Victor Martinez was without a doubt the 2nd best hitter after Cabrera and was the main reason Cabrera was able to hit so well.

The Tigers are in a jam because the roster as it stands right now leaves no option but to have Brandon Inge, and Don Kelly in the everyday lineup, and we have a platoon of Santiago/Raburn at second base. Regardless if the Tigers are still the favorites for the Central Division, this lineup absolutely can not thrive the way it is right now.

1. Jackson CF
2. Kelly LF
3. Cabrera 1B
4. Young DH
5. Boesch RF
6. Peralta SS
7. Avila C
8. Raburn/Santiago 2B
9. Inge 3B

I want to start off by saying this isn’t necessarily the lineup that I would run out there, but this is definitely the Lineup that our Idiot manager will run out there.

It is already a lot to ask for Avila and Peralta to replicate their stellar 2011 season.

We do not have a fifth starter as of now.

Brandon Inge is the worst player in baseball not named Adam Dunn, and will struggle to bat .200

If anyone thinks Verlander can win 24 games again they are insane.

Fister,Scherzer, Porcello will all have to be major work horses.

The Tigers seem content to lead off a guy who has a bad OPS and OBP.

Boesch has yet to stay healthy, and his health and also the health of Delmon Young will be huge factors on the season.

The Bullpen should be the strength of the team, especially once Albuquerque gets back.

Zumaya is gone, which is a huge relief, he was nothing more than a dick tease.

The Tigers do have a few moves they can make to fill the DH role, I will list them in order of my approval.

1. Yoennis Cespedes
2. Vlad Guerrero
3. Carlos Pena
4. Hideki Matsui
5. Prince Fielder (Only 5th because of the contractual hang ups it will bring)
6. Filled in house (i.e. Don Kelly, Delmon Young, Andy Dirks, etc.)
7. Anyone else on planet Earth
8. Carlos Lee
