   Hey, I just added your plugin to my site and it looks great!

   I have a little suggestion – maybe you should add a module in the post editor where you can override the default image (or first image of the post) with a specific image of your choosing.

   This can come in handy with posts that do not include an image (video posts or short poll posts) but are important enough that you’d want to assign them their own image.

   This is already easy to achieve. Just add a designated thumdnail to the post in question. This is done in the wp dashboard. Go to the post, look in the bottom of the right column. Add a thumbnail. This thumbnail will be displayed by YD recent posts.

   The thumbnail is now called “featured image” in WordPress 3.0.1 but as far as I can tell, it does the same thing. Of course if you do replace the image you may have to clear the thumbnail cache on the YD recent Posts Admin Page before your new image will show up.

   Hi there,
   I can’t figure out how to change the display order of post date and title in the widget.
   I’d like to display the title first and then the date in a separate line. I couldn’t find a easy solution for this in the yd-recent-post-widget.php file, and css is not working either.

    @All

    Version 3.0.1 is officially out and considered stable/official.

    It corrects all the bugs that were reported in beta version 3.0.

    It is fully compatible with WP3.0.1 and remains backwards compatible with WP and WPMU2.9x.

    It also corrects the bugs from previous supported and unsupported versions (cache clearing issues in 0.9,…)

    Due to all the new features, it will take me a little time to add a new FAQ page on this site and explain how to do things such as -yes, now feasible!- select posts from a specific category, so please hang on a bit more.

    Please continue posting bug reports, issues and feature requests on this page only (not in WordPress.org forums, I have no time to check those out on a regular basis, and not by e-mail); and please continue reading previous answers before reporting an issue. This will get easier to do when the FAQ page is out… soon.

    Thanks to all for your support, and if you like the plugin and would like me to continue spending hours improving it, don’t forget to donate. I spent a few dozen hours upgrading the plugin to this version, all for free. I will greatly appreciate your funding future releases.

    Excellent as a section with frequently asked questions, and most importantly the power to express the needs for this wonderful plugin.
    Only two suggestions:
    1 – put a spacer can be a thin line between the post
    2 – The most frequent question: to place a category (ID) and amount specified in the home.

    That is my suggestion from the rest is perfect.

    I uploaded this plugin, went to my widget page and dragged it over to use in my sidebar, but when I click the little arrow on the right hand side of the widget to expand the box and edit the settings, it won’t expand. All it shows is an empty space with the options to Delete, Close, or Save. (I’ve already saved it once.)

    Is something broken in the current version that won’t let you edit the settings…?

    Any help you could offer would be appreciated.

    On this site I am running version 3.0.1 of the plugin on WordPress 3.0.1 and I administer it with Mozilla Firefox version 3.6.8 on Linux (pretty close to OSX). I tried to upgrade the plugin or install it from scratch and never encountered the blank widget admin panel you are describing. Could you check the page source code to see if the panel content is there, hidden, somewhere in the admin page layout, or if some kind of bug blocks the php display altogether?

    One possibility is a conflict with another plugin or widget: can you try moving that widget up or down in your sidebar, or deactivating other widgets?

    I check the code with Firebug and it looks like the widget is outputing something to the site (the container div has the class of .yd_rp_widget) but it’s not physically displaying anything. The tags inside have links in them to my most recent posts but again, they’re not actually showing up.

    If you want to take a look at it, my test site is up at: www.pinstripepresentations.com/artsvest_wp/about-us/

    (Inspect the code right between the “Connect With Us” and the “Upcoming Events” sections in the sidebar, you’ll find the widget hiding there.)

    I tried moving around certain widgets and deactivating some of my newer ones, but nothing seems to work. I still can’t expand the YD Recent Posts widget and or edit it in any way.

    Whoa I got it working! I don’t know what happened — I removed all of my widgets, then added the YD Recent Post one first, then all of my other ones, and suddenly it works.

    Cool. Well, thanks anyway for your help! Hopefully it doesn’t konk out on me again. Thanks again for the plugin~

    I’m sorry, just one question now that I have it working and can see the settings and what it outputs.

    Is there anyway to move the date to underneath the post title link? Right now it displays as:

    But instead, is there anyway to get it to display as:

    Same here. I only run one widget. This one. After updating it to 3.0.1 I get a blank widget.

    If you upgraded from a previous version, please try resetting the plugin options, as mentioned in the upgrading instructions (“Reset plugin options” buton in the settings page). Some previous setting might prevent the display of all the items (all items are now optional).

    Right now, for the sake of simplicity, there is no way to change the order of the items. You can only choose to display them or not. I’m considering the option to add some output templates in a future version, so that things can be moved around freely.

    Yann – Upgrading completely broke my font-page. Now nothing displays in the widget at all.
    I have followed your instructions by resetting the plugin options. Still nothing.
    I uninstalled and then reinstalled. Still nothing.
    I uninstalled, reinstalled, and reset the options. Nothing.

    I downgraded to the previous version of the plugin. That works…but every time I install the new one, I just get a completely blank widget. Not a good thing to have happen to a live site.

    Not even the widget title shows up. Just a blank box where, I assume, the widget content is supposed to be. Viewing the source of the page shows that the widget is displaying content, but the viewer cannot see it. I’ve tried removing the css style, changing it, and leaving it. Still doesn’t display anything.

    Tested in Chrome on a 3.0.1 installation of WordPress.

    A blank widget display can be one of three things:

    1 – Either you did not check any of the optional items checkboxes in the widget admin panel. Please make sure that some items are selected for display among those:

    - Display post thumbnail:
    - Display post title:
    - Display post date:
    - Display post excerpt:

    After an upgrade to version 3 of the plugin, this is the most common issue, because you already had a widget configured, that did not have the new default settings for the new optional features set. Please make sure some of those checkboxes are checked! If nothing is checked, nothing displays, hence the blank rendering.

    2 – Some html/css rendering issue

    The basic structure of the css did not change between earlier versions and version 3.x, but you never know what other styles (from your theme or from another plugin) would be conflicting. I can’t do much about this, except make sure that the default styles provided with the plugin work well with th WP default theme and with my own themes (and this has been tested with the Chromium 5.0 rendering engine so there is no reason it would not display with Chrome)

    3 – Some other issue which blocks php from rendering the widget content

    One other user has explained that they had to move the widgets around in their sidebar and deactivate/reactivate other widgets to make YD Recent Posts run. If this is the case, I can only recommend trying out the widgets in another order, or deactivating all widgets and then reactivating them one by one to find which one is conflicting.

    The core features of the widget did not change that much between previous versions and new version 3.x, so I am confident that if you have the previous version working fine, you should be able to make it work again with version 3. It’s probably just that some of the new available settings is configured in a way that does not work right on your site. The hard part of course is finding which setting it is. You could try to add a second instance of the widget (that will automatically inherit all the new default settings) and see if that one displays. If this is the case, just copy the settings from the 2nd instance to the first one, or drag the first instance out of your sidebar and keep the working one.

    Just ask me clear up this doubt:
    I need to display the category (ID 3) with 5 news …. what is the code specifically for this.

    I have it all worked out, except for the default image. For some odd reason, it is trying to fetch my blog’s homepage instead of any other image URL I put in the box. This even happens after resetting the plugin’s defaults. This results in broken image.

    Excuse my english, I’m french. I’m using the new version of your plugin, with WordPress 3.0.1, and I want to display only posts from a given category. So, in the “Additional query parameters” of the widget admin panel, I put “cat=1″.
    I emptied the cache. And it doesn’t work. I don’t understand. Can you help me please.
    PS : I can’t show you my site, it’s a model, and there are some false advertising.

    What you did is correct, so there must be some other problem:

    - Are there any posts marked with the category ID 1 of your blog?
    - Please make sure the “Skip latest posts on home page:” checkbox is unchecked in the main plugin settings page.

    If it still does not work, please be more specific about how it “doesn’t work”: does it display nothing at all? does it display all posts?

    You’re right, the “Skip latest posts on home page” checkbox was checked in the main plugin settings page. But the problem persists. In fact the plugin display all posts.
    Ofcourse I have emptied the cache.

    can get it to work with thimbthumbnails.php.

    it works with the Use WP2.9+ post thumbnails enabled. but not with post with thumbnails that i have set with “Simple Post Thumbnails plugin) wich uses timthumb.php.

    i set it like this
    /wp-content/plugins/simple-post-thumbnails/timthumb.php

    but isnt working..

    also the Default image URL: isnt works… with a image in content or an image in other server like imageshack or something like that, isnt works..

    Strange. Great plugin, but the cat= query in the field does not work. It keeps on displaying posts form the point they disappear on the frontpage.

    we should uncheck “Skip latest posts on home page:” @ setting, it’s really crazy. It only show 1 “oldest” post only instead of “lastest” posts

    For some reason, no matter what URL I put in the default URL field, it always tries to load my blog’s homepage as the image.

    The plugin has been officially released in the WordPress repository since 08/17, and there is no other official site, so the WP repository is always up-to-date. I don’t understand how it’s possible that your source did not show the available update? Blogs running a recent version of WordPress usually show the available update a few minutes after release in the repository (if you manually check with control panel -> updates). However, the warning in the extensions list can take a few days to appear, it’s not real time. But again, the repository itself is always up-to-date.

    Yann – So, I’ve checked everywhere, and I don’t understand why the widget is loading my homepage rather than the site that I’ve put in.

    The url I’m using is website.com/images/m.png. It matches in the database under widget_yd_rp. However, the widget continues to try and load my homepage url – website.com – instead of that image.

    Again, resetting the defaults does not fix it. I’ve tried removing the widget and re-adding it, as well as clearing the caches. I’ve even gone as far as dropping the database tables and reinstalling the plugin. Still the same problem.

    i think its a bug indeed.

    to replicate it install simple thumbnails plugin. cause many themes is using that to make thimthumbnail works easy and fast.
