First Presentation — Situation Analysis
So this is the first presentation I did in front of our docents. A situation analysis and a rough draft of where I think we should be headed to promote open data and by extensions open knowledge in Belgium. Currently in Dutch, the English translation will follow.
Feedback
I actually received very little feedback. One person had the following remark: “Your statement, that our economy is closed, is false.” That question kind of baffled me. So I asked why. The person responded with the following statement: “Last year, Lay’s [famous chips manufacturer] issued a contest for people to create their own taste. This is en example of open economy because everyone could give their input!”
It is not my intention to belittle the person issuing this statement, but it serves as a useful anecdote to show how much work there is to be done in educating what this open thing is all about. Which is exactly what my Social Project and proposed strategy are all about: making open tangible. And most important: making it tangible in the right way, and by extension finding out what the right way is.
Another point of feedback was that we could use social media to reach our target audience. While that is certainly true, I think it is a little too early to be talking about which channels we should use.
