What Men Buy for Valentine’s Day Infographic
Ever wondered what most men buy for Valentine’s Day for their significant other? Wonder no more as we’ve compiled the response to that question in the infographic below based on purchases by male customers on Boticca.
So if you were hoping it was going to be that rose gold and amethyst ring you saw last time you were both out shopping, then think again! Of all types of pieces bought it was earrings, not rings, which were the most popular at 31%. Meanwhile, 26% of men opted for bracelets and 21% hoped to wow the woman in their lives with a well-chosen necklace. What the data strikingly revealed, was the tendency for men to steer clear of committal pieces, with these types of pieces (i.e. not rings) representing around 86% of all purchases.
Spending habits of men in different parts of the world were even more telling. To put it simply: ladies with Asian significant others, you’re in luck! Of all customers, male customers in the Far East (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore) had the most material love to give, spending around $270 per order. If your man happens to be from Germany or Italy, don’t get your hopes up this Valentine’s – men from these parts of Europe were the smallest spenders, with transactions averaging just $94 and $98 respectively. In his defence when quizzed about it, one Italian man said, ‘It’s not about how much you spend but what you spend it on that counts.’ With an answer like that, he won’t be needing jewelry to win us over, come Valentine’s!

Who wore it better?
With a limited number of ‘it’ dresses and a multitude of celebrities, it’s inevitable that sometimes, shock horror, celebs will be seen in the same ensemble. Here we take a close look at celebrity style and in particular, these style twins. In a bid to make every look individual, we show you how the help of some unique accessories would win the style war every time.
Michelle Yeoh Vs. Elizabeth Olsen
This week in who wore it better it’s a real case of screen star vs. rising star as these two very beautiful ladies wear one very beautiful dress in two very different ways.
Starting with rising starlet Elizabeth Olsen. Stepping out of her famous sisters fashion shadow with a recent medley of interesting ensembles, Elizabeth proves her fashion prowess with this beautiful Valentino number. With her loose waves keeping well with the twenties vibe of the frock, her ‘less is more’ theory when it comes to accessories leaves us a little cold. We would have liked to see some arm bling, like Joanna Dahdah’s Stacking Pave Bangles to make the outfit pop a little. As one to watch in the Hollywood stakes, Elizabeth could have stepped out of the safe box a little and we think that the fantastically funky Medusa Necklace by Suzanna Dai would be just the ticket.
Former Bond girl and Malaysian beauty Michelle Yeoh is no stranger to the red carpet, yet her choice of accessories in this case would lead us to believe otherwise. With her watch and bracelets far too heavy for this delicate, beaded ensemble, we would have swapped these for one more statement worthy piece. However, it’s not really the jewelry that bothers us most with her beautiful bag fading into oblivion by matching it too closely to the shade of her dress. Had she asked us, we would have steered her in the direction of Wilbur & Gussie’s Edith Gold Weave Clutch. The perfect hue to both melt marvelously into her ensemble while still standing out in true style.
So who is our winner? Inching just slightly ahead, our winner this week is the very lovely Elizabeth Olsen. What say you?
