PH BPO Urges Solons to Pass Cybercrime Bill

Industry body Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) is eagerly waiting for the decision of the House of Representatives regarding the proposed Cybercrime bill, since a version was already approved by the Senate.
BPAPs legislative committee head Martin Crisostomo said having a House version of the bill is now being worked on by solons, led by House ICT Committee Chair Cong. Freddie Tinga.
Crisostomo believes that the bill will be approved straightaway as the President and lawmakers see the need to modernize the constitution to stay competent and protect the industry and citizens from misconduct.
BPAP Chairman Alfredo Ayala said the security of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, which is built on IT and the Internet, will be driven further as most operations and transactions are with global clients.
Meanwhile, BPAP CEO Benedict Hernandez noted that the bill will help the industry reach its 2016 goals particularly the employment opportunities to more than four million Filipinos (1.3 million direct jobs and over 2.7 million indirect jobs) and revenue target of $25 billion. He also said it will change the perception of investors on the countrys business environment.
Angara anticipates a speedy passage of the bill but believes that there are still more areas of the legislation that should be worked on. He said participants of the process should be committed for the benefit of the industry and the Filipino people.
