Grandmothers Basket Parties

“Women do two thirds of the world’s work. Yet they earn only one tenth of the world’s income and own less than one percent of the world’s property. They are among the poorest of the world’s poor” - Barber B. Conable, President, World Bank

spacer When you host a Basket Party, you become part of a growing circle of people who are helping impoverished Ugandan women rise out of poverty. By partnering with Ugandan women a world away, you are truly helping them achieve a better future. On behalf of the Ugandan Grandmothers and orphans living in extreme poverty, thank you for taking action!

spacer Meet Grandmother Matrida. Matrida is just one of our many Grandmothers who has an amazing story of triumph and courage in the face of disaster. After losing several children to AIDS, she has been caring for as many as 15 grandchildren at a time.

However, due to her own determination and help from Nyaka, she is now on a path to economic empowerment, helping her family break free from the cycle of poverty. Thanks to a micro-finance loan from Nyaka, Matrida has been able to buy supplies to make beautiful woven baskets as a source of income. And, all of her grandchildren have attended Nyaka School. See more images of Matrida, on our Facebook page.
