No Walls Between Us

February 10, 2012 By Virginia Leave a Comment

Mister: “Mom, we built a brick wall because we don’t want to see each other.”

spacer

Me: “How’s that working out for you?”
Mister: “Not very well, Sissy keeps peeking.”
Sister: “Do not.”
Mister: “Do too.”

A few minutes later…

spacer

Mister: “MOM!  Sissy knocked down the wall!”
Sister: “That’s acouz I don’t like no walls atween us.”

That’s my quotable kid!   Life lessons with cardboard blocks.  LOVE. IT.

So, was she using wisdom, or just antagonizing her brother?

Either way, it was pretty smart.

Smile Squared Giveaway

February 8, 2012 By Virginia 6 Comments

Did you know that February is National Children’s Dental Health Month?  As you know, spacer developing good oral hygiene habits at an early age, and scheduling regular dental visits, helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.  Good oral hygiene habits promote dental health as well as overall health.

A toothbrush is one of those basic necessities of health, right?  Sadly, it is considered a luxury for too many children in the world.  Many children not even own a toothbrush.

spacer Smile Squared, a St. Louis based company, wants to change that.  Smile Squared has pledged that for every toothbrush they sell, they will donate one to a child in need. Now that is a small pledge that can have a big impact on the world.

We recently received a set of Smile Squared child-sized toothbrushes for review.

spacer

The Smile Squared toothbrushes are constructed with a bamboo handle and recyclable bristles. Even the packaging is recyclable.  After removing them from the packaging, which is recyclable, I grabbed a Sharpie and marked them with the kids initials.  It was the only way I could figure to keep them from confusing whose toothbrush was whose, since they look the same.

Once I had the initials in place, it was time to give them a whirl.  Mister examined his before deciding it was okay to use.

Mister’s gums are sensitive, so we have always used soft-bristled toothbrushes with him.  The recyclable bristles on the Smile Squared toothbrush are a bit firmer than his gums are accustomed to.  That, added to the fact that he has a new molar coming in, meant that he had a tinge of bleeding the first time we used it.  He hasn’t had any further bleeding, though, so it wasn’t a problem.

When it’s time for a new toothbrush, I plan to use the bamboo handle as plant marker, an spacer idea from Jennifer at Jennifer’s Pharmacy in St Louis. How cool is that?

Facts and Figures
  • 100% Biodegradable / Recyclable
  • 100% Handcrafted Bamboo Handle
  • 1:1 Buying to Giving Ratio
  • 98% Biodegradable

Purchasing personal hygiene products is one of the most basic things we do.  By changing the way we purchase them, we can meet a growing need and impact lives.  Rethink Buying.  Have a smile, give a smile.  I like it.

Wuggle Pets Love

February 8, 2012 By Virginia 8 Comments

Have you heard of Wuggle Pets?  I hadn’t either, until I received the opportunity to review them.  I thought it would be a fun project with the kids, so I agreed.

spacer Wuggle Pets is an assortment of eight collectable baby pets that children bring to life with a 12-piece starter kit. The kit includes one Wuggle Pets “factory”, an unfilled plush Unicorn and Puppy, two bags of stuffing, two bags of magic star dust, two sheets of personality charms, two birth certificates and a zipper lock.

The starter kit is $19.99 and the individual kits are $7.99 each and are available online at www.wugglepets.com or on Amazon.

Our Wuggle Pets Starter Kit arrived and the kids were excited to get started.  Mister quickly chose the blue puppy, which was perfect, because I knew Sister would want the “horsey with a horn.”

Our kitchen table quickly because the Wuggle Pet Assembly Line.

Daddy joined in the fun, and helped stuff the factory. I added the magic star dust. Then Mister stuffed the Cuddle Puppy.

spacer spacer

He decided to give his puppy ALL of the character traits, and then I zipped him up…

spacer spacer

Now it was Sister’s turn to stuff the Magical Unicorn…

spacer spacer

Of course, her unicorn was stuff with all of the character traits, too.

spacer spacer

When all was said and done, we had two happy kids and lots of Wuggle Pets snuggles, huggles, and love.

And some left over magic star dust.

Mister wants the Wuggle Pets Funny Monkey and Sister wants the Wuggle Pets Playful Pony next.

I see more Wuggle Pets in our future!
