20 Bloggers Who You’d Want To Comment On Your Blog

Ever left a blog comment?

The majority of you have, namely those who have commented on my previous posts (thank you), and those who read this but have yet to comment on my blog, but have commented on other blogs. Truth be told, commenting on blogs is one of the first things you do when you enter the blogging universe. It’s common to have people comment on a blog but not have their own, yet it’s rare to have people own a blog but not comment on others. My girlfriend is a recent case in point; she doesn’t have a blog, but she has left three (as far as I know) comments on blogs; two on mine, which you can find here and here, and one on John Falchetto’s post about blog commenting, which you can find here.

The reason I share this is because my girlfriend has taken an interest in what I do, and has now started to dip her toe into the blogging ocean. And she has done this by leaving blog comments.

Blog comments are the first sign that someone is not only reading your content, but they are also interested enough to type something. I don’t mean the spammy comments that make no literal sense, and I don’t mean the generic comments that go “Thanks, great read.” because they don’t help anyone. I mean the genuine comments that you just know, upon reading them, that they’ve been typed by a real person. That shows they have actually read what you’ve written.

It’s a big step for someone to post their first comment, and regardless of length or quality, if someone leaves a comment on my blog for the first time, I always welcome them to Unlock The Door, and thank them for leaving a comment. It shows that you care, and that their contribution is appreciated. Which it is.

Top Bloggers

So what’s up with the title? Well, I’ve been on many blogs, leaving comments here and there, and I’ve started to notice some exceptional bloggers leaving exceptional comments. Those comments that, as you scroll down the comments section to leave your own, catch your eye and compel you to scroll back up and see that comment properly. Then you marvel at the talent on show, and it inspires you to up your commenting game. I’ve had that moment many times, and there are some people who have created that moment more than once.

It is these people, these awesome commenting geniuses, that I list now as the ’20 bloggers that you’d want to comment on your blog’, in alphabetical order. If anyone of these 20 comment on your blog, consider yourself privileged.

1. Ayo Olaniyan – Ayo is someone who can appear both wise and humble at the same time. He’ll share his words of wisdom, and he will be very grateful for your post, something which all bloggers want to hear. He’s also very polite, often signing off with “Have a lovely afternoon”. A very nice and upstanding man indeed.

2. Bolaji O – I haven’t been in touch with Bolaji recently, but I remember when he first left a comment on my site, and I was blown away. The depth, length, and detail that he brings to his comments is remarkable, and he will discuss your topic at serious length without any signs of slowing down. He is what you would call a ‘blogging machine’.

3. Bryan Thompson – Bryan is someone who types from the heart. You can see his passion for helping others shine through in his comments, and he rarely fails to uplift me whenever he stops by. Bryan was one of the first bloggers I connected with, and I’ve witnessed comment after comment of pure gold.

4. Christina Crowe – Christina is a shining example of someone who puts the effort and time into crafting her writing. She has developed her writing to such a point that I’ve witnessed the quality of her comments improve consistently over time. A very sweet young lady, and one of the few bloggers on the scene younger than me spacer

5. Davina K. Brewer – Davina is the first blogger I came across that used acronyms in their comments. It may sound strange to read that, but I think it’s a very strong aspect to have. By using acronyms, I associate her with using these in her comments, which means I can recognise her comments easily. And just as important, she writes without fear spacer

6. Dino Dogan – Dino is a funny commenter, and a simple commenter. Some of his comments are the shortest I’ve seen, and if it weren’t for the quality and ingenuity of his writing, he might be seen as a generic commenter. But he’s far from that, he’s a great example of how to keep comments short and sweet.

7. Hector Avellaneda – One of the most ‘driven’ bloggers I’ve had the pleasure of coming across, Hector is a gentleman who always delivers value and passion in his comments. What amazes me is that his comments on his own blog are just as valuable as regular comments; he doesn’t hold back the value!

8. Ingrid Abboud – Some of you may associate Ingrid with her awesome Super Sunday series, but what is also awesome about her is her comments. The girl is one funny lady! She cracks me up with her witty one-liners, and she definitely brings a breath of fresh air to any blog. She also takes time to discuss the topic, and this combines to form one super-commenter!

9. Irving The Vizier – Irving is one of those rare humans that just ooze wisdom from very pore. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one short comment from this guy, he puts his all into every comment he types. And the insights he gives you will enlighten you at every turn. One of the finest commenters I know.

10. Jk Allen – Of course, I couldn’t write a post about commenting without mentioning The Hustler, The King Of Comments, Jk Allen. The man’s a commenting beast, and has been ever since he started blogging. Though his comments has shrunk slightly, the quality still shines through, and you can almost smell the passion he puts into commenting. A special individual, a rare treasure.

11. John Falchetto – John is a fine example of someone who mixes his opinion in with kindness and good manners. He could disagree with what you just said, but you wouldn’t be mad about it because he’d express it with such eloquence. John also gets a special point for having my girlfriend commenting on his blog, and she chooses very carefully spacer

12. John Sherry – I’ve had the pleasure of meeting John in person, and I’m glad I did, because I wanted to meet the man who leaves comments dripping with quality wherever he goes! John shares his unique brand of wisdom and knowledge mixed in with light-hearted humour, which never fails to bring a smile to my face. All-round top guy.

13. Marcus Sheridan – Marcus gets two points here. One, for being an awesome commenter in his own right. Two, for when he comments on your blog, you can click his link, follow him back to his place, and witness the best comments section I’ve ever experienced. The guy has developed such a community, so if you want to see what a thriving community looks like, check him out.

14. Mark Harai – If someone devotes a post purely to YOU, then you better sit up and take notice, and that’s exactly what happened with Mark Harai. One of the kindest, most generous bloggers I know, he leaves admiration and virtue in every comment he types. The guy is a true gent, and his comments never fail to brighten a blog.

15. Paul Wolfe – If someone asked me to pick someone who loves their writing, I’d say “Paul Wolfe”. The man is a machine, he writes massive posts, and his comments aren’t exactly skimped over either! Paul also gets my respect for being so willing to help others out; by suggesting resources in his comments, he shows his willingness to make the blogging universe a better place.

16. Ranjith Kumar – Ranjith is new on the scene, having only left a handful of comments so far, but those comments are pure gold! I’m amazed at the level of depth and intuition that I see when I read his comments, and I always appreciate them. Ranjith is a young star on the rise, and he’ll be commenting on a few more blogs to come spacer

17. Rob White – Rob has the unique ability of being able to ‘flip’ any topic that he comments on. In other words, he provides his own insights that more often than not, cause you to wonder why you never thought of it like that before. An intelligent and generous man, who enrichs any blog he comments on.

18. Tisha Berg – With Tisha, you’re guaranteed to get one thing from her comments; appreciation. She’s always gracious and willing to hand out her thanks, to you, for enriching her day. She’ll even give examples of how the topic has affected her! Tisha is someone who lightens any blog, no matter what the niche.

19. Tito Philips Jnr. – Tito is a very interesting blogger, as he manages to mix kindness and generousity in with a strong desire to express his thoughts. He once wrote a post titled “Your Blog Comments Suck And I Don’t Want Them”, and it spoke volumes about the determined character that he is, yet it also displayed his kindness. A unique blogger.

20. Tristan Higbee – Tristan is an exceptional blogger, someone who has taken blog commenting to the next level. He once left 100 comments in a single day! Head over to his site, where you’ll find out just how much of a influence he is on other bloggers when it comes to commenting.

Stuart, great list one thing Ingrid needs to be #1, NOBODY comments like her and I am not saying that because of the length of her comments, but also the actual value of her comments is second to none.

I know most of the great bloggers you mention, and I have added the others to my reader to find out more about their blogs.

Thanks Stuart, and I don’t remember disagreeing with you? spacer

I’m still very honored that Sam made her second comment on my blog, means a lot me.

Hi John, I agree with you about Ingrid, she comments exceptionally well. I had to keep it in alphabetical order though because I couldn’t decide who would be No. 1!

You’ve never disagreed with me John, as far as I remember, but I’ve checked out your comments elsewhere and you handle potential disagreements very well. You have a certain grace about you spacer

I’m with you John, I’m thinking though Ingrid would be 1a and JK would be 1b– take your pick, they’re both incredible people and some of my best friends on the web.

Stu, this article was exceptional and visionary. Heck, I’m jealous I didn’t think of it. Way to promote others at such a high level while giving so much value to your readers.

John F and Marcus .. ya’ll are funny, but yeah.. Ingrid, JK are certainly head of the class. Have to add Christina to that mix as I’ve seen some unreal comments from her, when all I could add was “what she said.” She’s nipping at their heels for the #2 spot IMHO.

What’s up Stu – thanks for the mention. I think commenting is a great way to connect with others. Without a doubt, it’s my way of trying to add what I can to the conversation; be it my direct-personal experience or just my opinion on the topic at hand. I did get started quick and early in my blogging career and somehow it got noticed…but I tell you, it’s never my intention to get noticed – just to add a little value if I can, here and there.

I like what you’ve had to say about each person listed. You didn’t just list names, but you threw in a few sentences on each person; detailing why you listed them. I second your notions that the bloggers that you’ve listed here are bloggers that people should want on their site. Even if they haven’t or rarely comment on my blog, I get to see their comments throughout the blogosphere and they are powerful.

I’m actively trying to get better at my commenting. I at times get a little long-winded, and take up too much space…I’m trying to be more direct, share what I have to say and cut out… I’m trying to be all about the quality. Trust me, I will not change my technique, but I’m always striving to tighten up on things.

I appreciate it again. It’s an honor to be mentioned here on your expanding community and equally to be mentioned along with the others here. Thanks man.

By the way, you’re not too bad yourself at commenting!

Why thank you Jk, that’s very kind of you!

I never thought your comments were long-winded, though I think the sheer size of some of them caught people’s attention and made them wonder “Who is this guy?”. Amazing that you have established so many comments on your own blog as well, despite not doing this blogging thing for that long.

It’s a sign that someone is good at commenting if they get loads of comments in return spacer

Wow, could you imagine getting superstar notoriety for leaving comments. Maybe these people could start charging for their comments as well.

I have seen comments by some of the people on your list and you are right that they are very precise and detailed in their commenting.

I hope they don’t start charging, it would mean commenting would become a ‘dark art’ of SEO spacer

I loved this! I remember reading about blogging years ago and how you should read, and comment on others before actually starting your own shit anyway. For me, I love posts that grab me and makes me want to comment so bad, its like having to go piss and you can’t hold it!

I am more drawn to posts that keep it real, straight to the point and aren’t afraid to just be themselves. I hate posts that just appeal to the masses. People that comment on your blog is like hitting gold when your digging in the dirt to come up, but I think it’s the relationships that you build with your readers that’s best!

Your post reminded me why you visit, read and comment on other blogs, because ultimately, it will teach you how to be a better commenter.

Stu,

I agree with every single person you have added to this awesome list. I have not connected with each of these people individually but I have seen them comment all over the blogosphere and each one of them is unique and powerful with the comments they leave behind. Each one of these people don’t blog or comment for any other reason but to add value to the conversation and I admire the work that they do. Thanks for sharing this list with your readers. We all could learn a lot from their experience.

You’re right, these 20 bloggers (and a lot more) don’t blog because they want cheap link juice, or because they love to preach. It’s because they’re genuinely interested in other blogs, and want to add some value.

There’s that keyword again, ‘value’ spacer

Stu – Thanks for the mention bud!

I’m really glad that you enjoy my comments and everything that I have to say man. Im going to level with ya! spacer

Leaving comments is really not that hard if people really use the comment section for what it is really intended for, which is to start a conversation.

I sometimes feel like there has been too much of a strategic angle put on commenting because, let’s face it, it helps drive traffic. However, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. If you leave comments just for the purposes of leaving a comment, you (speaking generally) do more harm to your brand than you do good.

Leaving comments with no value or consistency render you inauthentic and others pick up on that very quickly, believe it or not. There goes your brand and your credibility. Now, people know you’re the “What’s in it for me?” type of guy or gal. Anytime, you recommend a product or a service or heck, if you ever come out with your own product or service people will wil always wonder – “what’s in it for him? – Simply not worth it!

My take on commenting is, if you have something to add, coo! Say it and do the best job you can at conveying your thoughts. If not, then don’t try to make something up. Just don’t say anything at
