Tony Martignetti, Esq. Managing Director

Tony Martignetti has been serving the needs of non-profits since 1997, through his work in planned giving and his expertise in state charity registration. He inaugurated the planned giving programs for Iona College in New Rochelle, New York and St. John’s University in New York City. As Director of Planned Giving at St. John’s, he raised $20 million dollars in five years. Having created programs at these two different-size institutions, Tony has come to appreciate the impact that organizational culture has on fundraising activities.

As founder and managing director of Martignetti Planned Giving Advisors, LLC, he leads a company dedicated to supporting compelling non-profit missions. To that end, Martignetti Planned Giving Advisors builds the endowments of educational, arts, social service, religious, and healthcare institutions as well as professional associations and special interest groups. Martignetti’s thousands of conversations with older Americans have shaped his understanding of how our elders plan for their future.

Based in New York City, Martignetti is experienced in the relationship-building, marketing and technical aspects of gift planning. He has mentored, advised and coached major, foundation and annual gift officers as well as prospect researchers. He has trained and motivated volunteers on boards of trustees, campaign committees and advisory boards. He has spoken to volunteer and alumni groups, and has written for all varieties of client publications, direct mail and websites.

Tony is a recognized authority on state charity registration and is the author of the e-book Charity Registration: State-by-State Guidelines for Compliance. He has been quoted on planned giving and on the laws and trends of charity registration inΒ The Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones Newswires, Bloomberg Wealth Manager, Yahoo! His commitment to public speaking puts him in contact with different constituencies so he gets to understand the needs of many types and sizes of non-profits. Martignetti’s consulting often puts him in front of full boards of trustees, development- and finance committees. He works comfortably with CEOs, CDOs, CFOs and board members alike, helping them understand the value of-indeed, even how to value-planned gifts.

He has handled unusual gifts, including a ’57 Chevy, real estate, several collections of art, presidential memorabilia and book- and manuscript collections.

Mr. Martignetti served as chair of the board of Artichoke Dance Company. In 2004 he ended a three-year term as Vice Chair of the Community Advisory Board for WNYC public radio. He is a member of the Philanthropic Planning Group of Greater New York, the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (formerly National Committee on Planned Giving), the American Council on Gift Annuities, and is an avid runner.

Martignetti served for five years in the United States Air Force, having been a Missile Combat Crew Commander, and achieved the rank of Captain. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Temple University School of Law.
