We Heart Pinterest Day 10: Make Your Own
Since we LOVE Food Storage, and LOVE Pinterest (see post here), each day until February 14th, we’ll be showing you some of our favorite Pinterest boards and neat things we have found and have pinned there! It’s so great to see and share what others have done.
Today we are highlighting the Make Your Own board. There are so many household cleaners, body cleaners, and food mixes you can make your own, rather than buying them pre-made. Not only are making them yourselves cheaper, but you can make a variety of things with basic ingredients, allowing you to store less. Pinterest is a gold mind for finding make-your own recipes. We haven’t tried many of them yet, but look forward to trying them out!
- PIN 1: Who remembers to, or WANTS to store drain cleaner. This looks awesome, and who doesn’t have these ingredients?
- PIN 2: A whole list of household cleaners you can make your self from ingredients you have on hand.
- PIN 3: Homemade ranch, onion soup mix, and taco seasoning. Talk about saving you in a pinch when you run out of something!
- PIN 4: Baby wipes? That’s the last thing you want to run out of in case of emergency. Must try this!

We Heart Pinterest Day 9: Emergency Preparedness/How-to Tutorials
Since we LOVE Food Storage, and LOVE Pinterest (see post here), each day until February 14th, we’ll be showing you some of our favorite Pinterest boards and neat things we have found and have pinned there! It’s so great to see and share what others have done.
Today we are highlighting two fun boards, the Emergency Preparedness board and the How-to Tutorials board. On our Emergency preparedness boards we are gathering documents and information you may want to actually print out. You never know when this kind of information can come in handy, AND when you may or may not have internet access. The How-To Tutorial board is full of how-to tutorials we have made or found around the web. These are things you should learn about ahead of time!
- PIN 1: These are some ebooks we are going to check out ourselves, looks like great information for a long term crisis.
- PIN 2: A free download that contains a full eprep plan from our site.
- PIN 3: A video tutorial on how to turn off your gas. This could come in really handy!
- PIN 4: For those of you who are handy, or are married to a handy spouse, this tutorial is great for building racks for your water barrels!

Today we are highlighting the Water Storage board. Storing water is one of the most important parts of emergency preparedness. There are so many different ways to store water, each containing pro’s and con’s. It’s great to be able to see so many options, and then to be able to pick which works best.
- PIN 1: This is one of our favorite methods for storing water on a budget
- PIN 2: If you had time to plan for this (like if you knew a storm was coming, and could get ready in time) this is an AWESOME option for water storage.
- PIN 3: This is the kind of information that would be hard to remember off the top of your head, so it would be worth printing!
- PIN 4: If your budget allows…. these are AWESOME!

On our Meal Planning/Organizing board we are gathering great ideas for helping you to organize your recipes and plan out your meals. This can be very helpful for day to day cooking as well as for planning your three month supply. The Saving on Groceries board is full of tips on how to reduce your grocery spending so you can have more money left to buy food storage!

Today we are highlighting our Food Storage Gifts board. This board highlights some gifts we’ve found around the web, and some gifts we’ve made ourselves for people that have or use Food Storage. The best gifts, are those that are useful!

- PIN 1: One of our favorite gift ideas. #10 can stoves are great for anyone because they can provide people with a way to cook food. Make this with items you already have on hand.
- PIN 2: Wheat grass is a fun decorating item, and healthy food item. Check out this pin to see it grown in Christmas mug, but you could use just about any container and do the same thing!
- PIN 3: When we got married, we got recipe boxes full of family recipes from Jodi’s mom. You could do a spin on that gift for bridal showers, and make Jodi’s cute recipe binders!
- PIN 4: We couldn’t help but share this Valentine’s 72 hour kit for you to make for your loved ones that work at an office.
