We went to Caloocan yesterday to close one of our company’s bank account. Its been a while since we had a transaction and the account is already a dormant account. Thus to save the deductions from being debited, we closed it for good and will just concentrate on other banks. Better than way!
Anyway, prior to going home, we went to Divisoria to pay a visit (psst shopping) to 168. But instead of going to 168, we gave 999 a shot. It was my first visit for Mall 999, its the mall beside 168. I was able to buy pajamas for my kids, outdoor shirts for my hubby, and other home accessories. I was able to buy custom name tags for my kids party. I am not sure yet if I will use this for Francis 8th birthday or will for Christoph’s 7th birthday in June.
Just before heading home, there are several fruit and vegetable vendors just outside the mall. I was able to buy 3 pcs of cauliflower for only Php 50.00, 3 pcs of cabbage for Php 20.00, one portion of tomatoes for Php 10.00 and a portion of onions for Php 10.00. Amazingly cheap! For fruits, I bought 1 kilo of seedless grapes for Php 100.00, one pack of apples for Php 50.00 and 2 kilos of mango. Yum yum!

Its Valentines Day soon and for sure, a lot of married couples, live-in partners or lets just say – sweethearts are already planning how to celebrate the special day of the heart. How about you? Have you booked any hotel or perhaps a dinner date with your partners?
A lot of hotels and restaurants are now offering a package deals for the couple. I have seen a few but never get to my mind of booking. I have bought several coupons from group buying deals like dinner in a 5-star hotels, cruise around Manila Bay and even a family dinner complete with suzuki micro grand digital piano and all for the bin. All expired now! What a waste of moolah!
When I was younger, it was always about eating out and disco dancing till the wee hours of the morning but now that we are married and have kids, we prefer a date with soft music around.
Now that hubby is in Dumaguete, even if I want to plan our valentines date, we might not be able to utilize again so better save the money for now and lets see come Valentines Day.
The kids are getting ready now to go to the farm to fish. Its not really a pond but we want the kids to experience how to catch a fish. We made a make-shift fish catcher hoping to catch some. If we cant catch, then will just buy some nice fish for grilling for our dinner tonight. I heard that Grills Direct has an ongoing weber grill sale onsite.
Anyway, time for me to end this post as we need to catch some earthworms first.
Happy Chinese New Year foodies! On Monday, the Philippine government declared as a non working holiday for the first time thus the celebration of the Chinese Year in Manila was extra ordinary. Not that I was there but it was evident in the news channel. We are Chinese but we always eat Tikoy during Chinese New Year.
Tikoy or Nián gāo is a type of rice cake made from glutinous rice flour and considered as a must served during Chinese Year. Its normally fried deep in egg. Its sweet, so sticky and yes yummy! It was my plan earlier that I should prepare something like what the Chinese do, but didn’t have the time to do it. We recently just moved to Dumaguete and have plenty of things to arrange and do.
I heard that the people born on Year of the Dragon will not succeed this year, first, they’ll lose their job! Oh well, I just lost mine! It’s a bad news but I am hoping and praying that things will get better. Hope one day when all are in places, I could buy myself a diamond eternity band. I think I deserved this!
Anyway, lets all eat tikoy now! This is actually my afternoon snacks!
Lechon lechon lechon, yes thats probably the number one food served during Christmas season. And yes, for me, I had enough lechon last December thus for my new resolution this year, I will not eat lechon forever! Nah, just kidding! Oh well, lets be conservative and say – 1 month. And next month, will update again. Hopefully, this resolution will stretch to 2 months or even 1 year. Do you believe in that? I doubt it! lol
Anyway, for January 2012, less pork more fish! You see, I am really craving for fish and other seafoods after the recent flashfloods in Mindanao. Of course, everyone is afraid to eat fish. So while we were in Mindanao – Cagayan de Oro and Bukidnon specifically – we feasted on pork and chicken all the time!
Have you noticed that the pork being sold at our supermarkets are getting leaner and leaner? That is because, each year, food scientists are finding ways to meet the demand of leaner pork with less fat. Well, it is indeed beneficial to our health as they say, however, there is still one great downside to it and that is the fact that it is the fat which moistens the pork and makes it taste so good because it carries the flavors. It is such a good news then to know that there are still farmers who preferred to raise the traditional native and rare breeds of pigs such as the Gloucestershire Old Spot, a certain breed of pig that has a distinct layer of juice-spurting backfat and marbling within the meat. The old spot pig produces a top quality meat for all purposes and has a very fine carcass. What a relief! Now, we no longer have to deny our tastebuds with such a mouthwatering dish plus you can just order them online and have them delivered to your home!
At Farmison, you’ll find a variety of food products produced from the Gloucestershire Old Spot breed from different farms such as Boned Shoulder, Boned & Rolled Leg and Middle Loin of Pork from the Abotts Close farm and Minced Pork, Silverside, Pork Belly Steaks, and Pork T-Bone from the Quarry Bank Farm. You can even order carrots, potatoes and other ingredients from them. They also sell bacon, hams, sausages and burgers and even have a long list of high quality meat products from other animals as well like beef, lamb, pork, veal, poultry, game and game birds. They’re animals are bred slowly and the meat are naturally dry-aged which makes it even more flavorful.
Now that Christmas is fast approaching, ordering from them is a wise choice. You’ll not just be able to put delightful food on your table, you’ll also be able to save your cooking time to bond with your family. Such a good deal, right? Therefore, go ahead and order now!
I just want to share to my readers our food the other day. I forgot the restaurant though. Thats the problem if you are just invited for lunch and you don’t pay and keep the receipts.
Bon Appetit!!
Happy Fiesta Tagoloan! Yes, my mother is from Tagoloan. She said that its their fiesta but I don’t know whether its the town fiesta or just their barangay. Anyhow, she sent us this box full of goodies.
Filipinos especially in the provinces are really fond of celebrating fiestas. It is customary to prepare food, lotsa foods as all your relatives, friends, neighbors and all the passersby will come and visit you. Of course, in anticipation of such flock of people, my mom roasted one pig and another 2 for the menudo, grilled pork and other delicacies.
For us siblings who are based in Manila, she sent us this package with half of the lechon and some more food. My brother fetched this from Cebu Pacific. Thanks dear Mother!
Every year, we never failed to attend the Oktoberfest organized by the German Club. Of course, why would we? Our boss is a German and we like to parteey! So we bought 10 tickets at roughly PhP 2,000 each. We invited a couple of friends and we partied the night away.
This was my second servings of pure Bavarian food. Lots of sausages and German food to choose from with free flowing San Miguel draft beer.
Cheers to everyone!
My entry for Food Trip Friday and Yummy Sunday.
