About
I am Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Ning, Inc. (previously known as 24HL), a Palo Alto-based start-up working on a new consumer Internet service. I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science (in the area of self-organizing networks) from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. In early 2003, I co-founded clevercactus, ltd., which worked on multi-platform collaboration software until it closed its doors in late 2004/early2005. I was previously a teaching assistant at TCD’s Computer Science department.
I graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA where I did research in the Software Engineering Research Group. I worked at Fuego Corp. before going to the US, then after graduation I was a Research Associate in the Personal Systems Group at IBM’s TJ Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York, and later at Mindstech International in Silicon Valley.
My research interests include large-scale software systems, self-organizing and wireless networks, complexity theory, dynamical systems, and molecular nanotechnology among others.

I frequently write on my weblog (my old weblog, d2r is now in archive mode). I enjoy writing fiction (for that see my experiments on merging narrative and weblogs on Plan B — a blognovel).
