The Rodarte designers will create their first opera costumes for the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni in May.
They join a creative team guaranteed to draw the eyes and lenses of the global media. Gustavo Dudamel, a charismatic Venezuelan conductor who has been profiled in US Vogue, and starchitect Frank Gehry complete the team.
‘It only took a few seconds to say “yes,”’ Laura Mulleavy told the LA Times. ‘My grandmother sang opera, and if she were alive today, this would be her proudest moment.’
The designers promised their costumes ‘won’t be oriented to a period in history but will be more abstract.’
Anyone who witnessed their installation of intricate gowns at Pitti W in Florence knows that the Mulleavys are destined to dress divas. We can’t wait.
