Fashion's (lack of) Passion...

January 10th 2012 09:39
Wow. Its been a really, really, really long time since I posted on this blog - as in THREE YEARS. Good grief.
Far too much has happened in that time including me having two children. Eek!

So, I apologise in advance for anything I write that may not make sense - see I am rather sleep deprived. Oh sleep, how I love thee! Why did you leave me?? Oh thats right, children...

All righty, onto more interesting things!

I thought for my return, I might just delve into a rant about Retail Fashion.

The thing (amongst many) that is irritating me at the moment is the complete lack of interest and training from staff that I seem to encounter every time I walk into a clothing store (well any store actually, but I am focusing on fashion here).

Excuse me? But I would have thought in the job interview at least, there would have been a pre-requisite for the candidate to have an actual interest in fashion? A helpful personality even? No?!?
It just seems to me, no matter what age, that these women DO NOT.

I wont talk too much about the badly dressed ones (er, if you look terrible in the clothes, why on earth would I be inspired to buy them??), instead, more about their crappy service.

I'll give you an example - I went into Country Road a few months ago, cash to spend. I approached the saleswoman and told her EXACTLY what I was looking for - a dressy top for a birthday lunch I was attending, any colour that would suit me and must be able to breastfeed in it. She came back with a high necked shapeless butt-ugly top in a poo brown colour. Um hello? Did you not listen to a word I said? (obviously!!) since when does a high neck allow me to feed discretely? Since when does a shapeless high necked top look good on anyone with boobs? (hello! prow of a ship/shelf of boob) And does poo brown suit anyone? Besides poo?

I was just flabbergasted (what a darling word!) that I had pretty much handed her the information on a plate, a ready and willing customer, and she hardly even bothered to lift a finger.

How hard is it to:
(a) LISTEN to what the customer is telling you?
(b) LOOK at the customer - what is her body shape, what is her colouring, what types/colours of fabrics would be most flattering on her?
(c) ASK questions - find out what their lifestyle is like, what do they like/dislike, what is their personal style? Do they need help defining that style? Do they want the outfit/piece for work or play or both?
(d) TAKE THE TIME to know your own store and its collections and how they can work (or not) for individuals
(e) BE INTERESTED in fashion and excited that you will be helping people to look & feel fabulous!

I get so frustrated when I see and hear the retail sector whinging about profits declining and people not shopping anymore, as if it is the fault of the consumer. The fact is, it's because retailers are the problem! Put the right people in the job and you wont need fancy sales pitches, you just need people who can do all of the above, which is not difficult, and your profits would soar!

How wonderful would we feel if someone was able to help us find even just one item of clothing that we looked fabulous in? And I guarantee you would go back and spend more!

It seems that good service in retail is a forgotten art by the bigger names, and only exists in some smaller boutiques.

Anyone received good/bad service recently and wants to share? Name and shame or talk them up!

Love, Miss Rabbit

Je t'aime Paris (not the skanky one, the city)

July 16th 2008 11:09
Well, its been a while since I last had a rant, but today will just be a gush I'm afraid - about Paris.
Paris, the city not that skanky trashy beeeatch, oops I digress...
Oh magical city of the Eiffel Tower, L'arc de Triomphe, the Champs Elysees, Rodin, Musee d'Orsay..I could bang on forever but I won't.
I will, however have a bit of a blab about how fabulous the clothes and style of Parisians are.
I recently spent many a happy afternoon sipping a cafe au lait (albeit completely arsey coffee - the French may have baguettes, desserts and clothes down, but I am sorry, their coffee is piew!) watching the fashion parade of sophisticated, elegant, uncomplicated and beautifully dressed Parisians walking past. The most common look was a great pair of skinny jeans with ballet flats and a swanky scarf - and it looked lovely. I want!
So I have set my mind to gathering a wardrobe of classic, timeless pieces - and thanks to Christine in Flinders Lane, Melbourne, I am well on my way.
She is a legend in Melbourne for stocking all types brands from Lanvin, Vivienne Westwood, Longchamps and Sonia Rykiel to other lesser known but high quality brands - and she is having a sale right now. I bought some fabulous patent and satin black Lanvin ballet flats at under half price, and a few other beautiful pieces - an Anya Hindmarch brown suede clutch to name one of my treasures. The range of clothes, shoes, bags and accessories is amazing and addictive to look at. My advice? Get in quick because the sale ends on Saturday.
My next quest is a tuxedo style jacket and a smart blazer - for both work and play..ooh la la!

A Woman's world?

April 10th 2008 11:51
So I was reading an article the other week in which men complained bitterly about how women are emasculating them and forcing them to live in their world and abide by their rules, including the whole metrosexual movement.
Hhmm... last time I checked, men were still getting paid more than women, still getting promoted above women, still doing sweet F.A at home whilst their super human wives/girlfriends/significant other worked as much as they did (for less money of course), raised the children, studied part time AND cleaned and cooked! Then they also go to the gym, colour their hair, wear make-up and generally look after themselves (including the horrendous pain of waxing every nook and cranny) and men have the nerve to have a sook about it being a woman's world?!?!? Hello?!?
Women have been taken for a total ride - here you go ladies, embrace feminism, get the vote, work, but also add on exactly what you were doing in the home before you had a career, and lucky you, we will shove a whole lot of fashion magazines and celebrity crap in front of you so that you feel inadequate that you don't look like a goddess 24/7 (without the aid of a personal trainer, chef, stylist and nanny). See? Aren't you so glad its a woman's world? What a load of bollocks!
It is still a man's world, and if they think we are stupid enough to swallow the "wahh waah its a woman's world and I am so hard done by because I have to wax my chest" act, then they have another think coming!!
Oh, and which woman ever said that they thought the metrosexual movement was attractive?!? EEEEEWWWW - any man who buys into that is clearly stupid and has no sense of what is appealing to the opposite sex. I, and all of my girlfriend's, do not want a man who waxes their eyebrows (though mono brow extermination is appropriate), wears make-up and spends more time on their hair than we do. Gross! Leave it to the gay men, boys! All we want is a high standard of personal hygiene (i.e. have a shower, shave and put on deodorant and clean clothes, sexy aftershave is also good) a bit of style (no grey, velcro shoes please) and an egalitarian attitude towards household chores. Its not too much to ask is it??

Aaah Cashmere, my precious..

February 15th 2008 10:47
So as I mentioned, I am getting into this whole investment wardrobe thing and on my journey of discovery of all things fashion, I have become obsessed with cashmere.
Cashmere dresses, cashmere coats, cashmere pants, cashmere cardigans, cashmere pashminas, cashmere sweaters, cashmere hoodies - you name it, I have drooled over it.
Hell, I think I would even get a little hot and heavy over cashmere earrings if such a thing existed or if it wasn't quite so ridiculous and pointless

Investment Dressing

February 5th 2008 09:17
So, in my last post I referred to my new co-obsession to buying useless fashion magazines, and that is - painstakingly putting together an investment wardrobe.

After years of detesting shopping, I am now beginning to understand why some (dare I say most) women are nuts about it (though I used to think nuts for enjoying it

I hate shopping!

January 6th 2008 08:09
Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, New Year and all that stuff.
I thought I'd start off the year with a good old fashioned rant.
This time its about shopping. Any kind of shopping that involves face-to face contact that is

Big Fat Lies

November 19th 2007 09:49
I have been noticing another disturbing trend lately - overweight people in denial.
I have all the sympathy in the world for people who struggle with their weight - but please be honest with yourself!
The main reason we get fat is because we eat too much and don't exercise enough. When you sit on your big fat butt watching t.v and stuffing your face with every conceivable item of edible food you can get your little sausage fingers on, of course you are going to put on weight! Thats what happens! We don't all have the metabolism of a whippet and those of us who claim to have only gotten that way by either 1. lying and not eating much of anything or 2. Actually eating healthily and exercising until their metabolism kicks along nicely

Fashion Victims

November 11th 2007 10:56
Can I just ask, what is with teenage girls and their idea of fashion?

Honestly, everyday I see these young girls around the place yabbering away to each other in the most irritating fashion (that's another rant waiting to happen), wearing, well, obviously they think its fashion, but news flash girls - its hideous
