DIY: Chalkboard-Labeled Jars!

spacer

This is such a fun project and you can really do whatever you want with it! I got the idea from some spice jars at Anthropologie. They were really cute, but I didn't see the sense in paying $10 for them when I could come home and round up some jars to paint and try it out myself. You can also find a similar tutorial for Glitter Jars on Elsie's Blog!

Here we go -->

These supplies can be found almost anywhere; I go to Hobby Lobby for everything craft related because I get a 40% off coupon every week in my email.

1. Squirt paint into the bottom of the jar. Not too much, because then it will clump up on the walls and dribble down to the bottom of the jar.

2. Spread paint. I used a bristle brush, but switched to a sponge brush later.

3. Get your chalkboard paint! I did use the sponge brush here too - easier to spread. THE THING ABOUT CHALKBOARD PAINT: It takes a lot of coats. A LOT. I had to let about 6 coats dry overnight and then added 4 -6 more to get a good clean chalkboard surface.

4. After your done chalk-boarding your jars, add some decor, flair, etc. Whatever you want! I added dots on one jar and dashes on the other in white acrylic paint.

5. Label and display! I don't recommend using these jars for pure spice or tea leaves, etc. because the paint smells on the inside - if you seal it, that should work. I also found a lid from another candle that sat perfectly on top of these jars. Enjoy!

"26 before 27" - #4: Sing at an open mic.

spacer

As mentioned in the previous blog post, I have a list of goals I'd like to finish by the time I hit 27 - which will be in October.

I'd like to tell you about the most recent achievement: Singing at an open mic!

My fear of performing in front of people is odd because I used to be in theater and performed in a band during high school, as well as piano recitals. I also LOVE karaoke. So why be so scared of an open mic performance? Because I would have to sing AND play at the same time. Doubles my chances to mess up.

However....this past Sunday, I was able to kill this fear by playing with Peter at an improv open mic. We played a Johnny Cash song. Now that I've done it once, I'm fine to do it again. Funny how that works.

Chapter 1

I will be blogging about a few things on here, and one of them will be on how to stay motivated and how to find inspiration in day-to-day things or ideas.

Starting a blog has required me to gather many ideas and figure out a way to organize them. I have been planning for almost a year! I have learned what works and what doesn't work for me.

Some ways that have worked for me is:

1. Writing things down.
(I use a Reporter Style Moleskin).
spacer

2. Visualizing your ideas.
(This is my post-it note idea wall I have for ideas for my blog. Constantly staring at it and updating it!)

spacer

3. Write it down, again.
(I have a chalkboard (upcoming DIY!) that I use so I don't always have to look in my moleskin. Commission deadlines and most recent ideas are usually here).

spacer

4. Create a "____ before _____" list.
(When I turned 26 last October, I wrote down all the things I wanted to do before I was 27. So, I have a "26 before 27" list.
I still have a few blanks left, but I'd like to get them all done! It's a great way to give yourself small goals and a few big ones for the year).

spacer

5. Have supportive friends!
(Plain & simple. This is one of my cats, Wizard. I also have human friends who support me, as well as my family, which is priceless and invaluable!)

I hope you enjoyed this post. More to come, including DIYs, recipes, RECYCLED: (I'm very excited about this topic!) as well as Fashion Tips and Tries.

What keeps you inspired & motivated?
