About us

iKMS is a non-profit organisation aimed at serving information and knowledge management (KM) professionals. The iKMS Constitution governs the running of the iKMS.

iKMS serves its members by making information on KM easily available through a wide array of resources such as evening talks, seminars, conferences, networking opportunities, journal, newsletters, special interest groups, collaboration forums, and group discussions.

Mission and Objectives

iKMS aims to:

• create awareness of KM and information processing through seminars, conferences and publications
• promote the development of effective KM practices in both private and public sectors in Singapore
• promote research and development in the field of KM and information processing

Activities

iKMS activities include:

• monthly events featuring local and international case studies and speakers on the latest trends in KM
• forums, workshops, seminars and informal networking sessions
• KM Singapore, an annual conference with local and international speakers, focused on supporting KM practitioners
• publication of the Journal of Information and Knowledge Management
• publication of the annual book Knowledge Management: Singapore Perspectives
• research and publishing projects such as Knowledge Management Competencies: A Framework for Knowledge Managers (2008)
• the annual KM Excellence Awards aimed at recognizing KM efforts in Singapore that have positive business impact on their host organisations
• regular alerts on KM events, KM-related employment opportunities, and other KM news
• support for Special Interest Groups to share and build knowledge in specific subdomains in KM
• representing the Singapore KM community at conferences and events in Singapore and overseas
• partnering other KM training and conference providers to provide discounted KM professional development opportunities to iKMS members

Background

iKMS started as a KM interest group, meeting and discussing KM matters in Singapore in late 1999.

By 2000, interest was growing so rapidly that the founding committee, chaired by Dr Suliman Hawamdeh, decided to register a society. In January 2001, iKMS was officially born.

With one of the few peer-reviewed journals in KM, an annual conference, a membership of over 200 members in 8 countries, and an interest group of over 1,000 more, iKMS is now a potent force in KM.

iKMS has an inclusive, practitioner-focused perspective grounded in solid research. We bring together practitioners, researchers and commercial providers in a unique way.

With our openness to collaboration and partnerships, we have links with other KM organizations in Asia Pacific, Europe and the Americas.
