Hungry

I hate to have rules for eating, but there are a few things I try to keep in mind overall . . . spacer

  1. If it doesn’t taste good, don’t eat it. I’m all for healthy eating, but I’m not going to eat something just because it’s good for me or just because it’s there.  If I’m taking in calories, I want to enjoy them!  This means no rice cakes, lemon flavored desserts, or salmon for me.
  2. If you’re hungry, EAT! I always see women starving themselves on diets only to succumb to their hunger & feel like they’ve failed.  That’s no good!  So when I feel hungry, I know it means that my body needs fuel–& I eat something!
  3. If you aren’t hungry, DON’T EAT! This is a newer one for me & perhaps the most difficult.  You see, I love food.  It’s not just the tastes & textures, but also the happy feeling it gives me.  Unfortunately, this leads me to eat when I’m bored, lonely, celebrating, socializing, etc. etc. etc.!  I read recently that you can always have more . . . tomorrow.  Every time I want to eat when I’m not hungry, I tell myself this!
  4. If you want dessert, have dessert. I have found that when I really want something sweet, I need to have the real deal.  No substituting with a diet ice cream sandwich or sugar-free pudding.  For me, that just leads to overeating, because I haven’t really satisfied my craving.  If I just have what I really want (in moderation!), I’m satisfied.

Hi again! I just wanted to tell you I love your blog so much! I’m actually on a huge health kick at the moment (not that you could tell from my blog!!) and I’ve completely changed the way I eat and exercise. These rules for eating are pretty much exactly what I’m following at the moment to try and get healthier! I’m looking forward to reading more from you. I’m going to add you to my blogroll if that’s okay spacer

Good tips! I’m with you on number 4 especially. When I’m REALLY feeling somethin’ sweet, a 100-calorie thinsation just is not going to cut it. It will probably lead me to eating something else that is much higher in calories. Sometimes you just gotta indulge and get it out of your system!

Exactly! I read a book called Intuitive Eating & it talks a lot about having what you want, just not bingeing. It’s the not bingeing part that’s sometimes tough!

I LOVE this mindset. I recently decided that the best diet for me is the “stop dieting diet”. I truly believe that if I am hungry, my body is trying to tell me something. Ever since I started listening to my body more I have been SO much happier. I recently started blogging my favorite healthy versions of the most indulgent baked goods! I think that COMPLETELY fat free and sugar free equals taste free. These baked goods are beyond delicious and more than that, I rate everything I make so I am not leading my readers to believe that every cookie tastes the same. Sometimes, you just need the most decadent sugar filled dessert ever!

This page is great! Rules are tricky when it comes to eating, but I think you’ve set up some great guidelines for yourself that are totally manageable (: The blog looks great, I’m gonna be checking out more of it!

Eating only when I’m hungry is my biggest struggle. This is SO hard for me (and I’m sure for tons of women too).

I absolutely agree with your food rules! My friends & family sometimes look at me crazy when i take one bite of a brownie or some other treat & then don’t finish the rest & it’s because of my current philosophy: If I don’t love it, i’m not eating it! I DO struggle with the “If i’m not hungry, don’t eat” rule though… Trying to stop the eating out of boredom or because it’s “dinner” time so i SHOULD be eating dinner mentality!
