Welcome to our family.

My name is Brandy and I am married to an amazing man named Dax.  Together, we are the  parents of seven incredible sons whom God has given us to raise for His purposes.  We endeavor to raise each of our children as the Lord has instructed, and hope to encourage and inspire others to live God-centered lives.

Some say my life is cRaZy!

While I couldn’t agree more, I’m also quick to say how happy I am to have been so blessed to get to be the wife and mom in this family.

This blog is an extension of my world.  I have a passion for writing, and a passion for encouraging moms with young children, and this is my creative outlet.  I write in spare time, or at night when all the boys are in bed, or when they’re eating lunch right next to me in the kitchen.  My desk chair is often almost knocked out from under me by a boy on a flying scooter!

Several years ago, I realized that motherhood is like a marathon, and that though it’s hard work, it’s one of the most rewarding challenges I’ll ever face.  After this particular season of motherhood will be a new race with a new set of experiences.  For now I’m focused on doing what it takes to run strong.

I believe:

  • in the One True Ever-Living God.
  • that my husband and family are second only to God.
  • that children really are a blessing from the Lord.
  • that perspective changes everything.
  • in setting priorities to help meet the goal.
  • in the soul/body/spirit connection.
  • that eating well is fundamental to good health.
  • moms need to be fit, to have fun, and to be with friends.

I love to write about FAMILY topics, including babies, home organization, homeschooling, marriage, parenting and our real life.  Here, you’ll find anything from a post on my natural childbirth experiences to homeschool challenges to how to make homemade insect repellent and laundry detergent.

But how do I keep it up?  How do I manage to have the strength and energy for such a large family of all boys?  The answer is…I am not alone.  My strength comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth.  I am so very imperfect and find myself quite often, in a humble place and asking for forgiveness….for my impatience…..for my lack of compassion…or understanding….or self-control.   Discouraged as a mom?  I’ve been there, too.  Read here to find out what I do on hard days.  In the FAITH category, it is my prayer that you discover that we are nothing without Him.  Anything good that we can hope to be or do as a mother comes from Him alone.  When He is first and central in our lives, that is, when we begin to truly meditate on Him and His Word day and night, is when we are most able to hear His voice.  When He’s central, perspective changes, priorities become clear, and we begin to live out our lives passionately as we see ourselves as He created us.  You are a blessing to your homes, moms!

I also love to talk about FOOD!  Nutrition is crucial for moms who want to stay fit and be able to continue to serve their families well.  A bit of a health-nut, I spend a LOT of time in the kitchen.  I love to menu plan, to grocery shop, feed my family healthy foods, bake our own bread, and explore new recipes.  I do my best to provide healthy meals for most of the time, but I can also appreciate the convenience of not-so-healthy packaged or fast foods, on occasion, when we’re in a hurry, away from home,  or on vacation.  And I have a weakness for dessert, especially cookies!!

As a mom, I’ve learned the importance of FITNESS and FUN, for not only myself, but for the well-being of our family.  Newer categories, they’re not nearly as filled as the others, but I hope to share more and more as we journey on.

We love to watch our boys play sports – of any kind – including indoor soccer, outdoor soccer, football, baseball, basketball and more.  This summer, our older three boys will be participating in their very first (kids’) triathlon, and I can’t wait to share the adventure!  Coming soon, I will be adding subcategories for Fitness for Moms, Fitness for Kids, Natural Healing, and maybe more.

And in the FUN category, I can hardly wait to post about Friday Family Fun nights, babies’ first birthday party ideas, crafting projects, sewing projects, scrapbooking projects, and more.

About the boys?

Dax, my celebrity husband of 15 years, works in the roofing industry and is a man of integrity and honor.  He LOVES to network.  Once he meets someone, he’s their friend.  He treats me like a queen even when I don’t deserve it.

Nolan is our oldest, age 13, and he just wants to have fun!!! An adventure-seeker like his father, Nolan loves the thrill of wakeboarding! A food-connoisseur like his mother, Nolan spends a bit of time in the kitchen with me now and then, helping prepare the family meals. Lately, he’s become quite the techy guy, and often gives me computer related advice when needed.

Hayden is our 10 year old who loves exploration. He’s been called a worm-eating, tree-climbing, science-loving jokester, and well….that describes him fairly accurately. He’s recently become quite the indoor soccer guy!

Dylan, an athlete before birth, is our 8 year old. He is a whiz when it comes to schoolwork every day, partially due to his natural intelligence, and partially due to the fact that he has other things to do…..like build with his Legos!!! He recently announced that he wanted to be an engineer for Lego when he’s grown.

Our fourth son, Dax (Jr.), is six years old and is named after my husband, who was also the fourth son in his family. He has been a drummer since birth. If there is a surface to tap, that is what you’ll hear him doing. He also eats like a man!!

Andrew – we call him Drew, is our fifth son, and is five years old. He has known for a long time that his favorite color is orange. He is quite an artist and regularly gives us gifts and describes to us in great detail, the meaning of his work.

Levi is three, and I can’t believe how quickly he’s grown. His smile lights up a room.  He has a beautiful, loving personality that is absolutely magnetic.  This boy can ransack a place quicker than you can say, …than you can say….never mind.

Landen was born June 25, 2010, weighing in at 9 pounds 2 ounces. He is a beautiful, healthy baby boy and we are so thankful and enjoying him so much.
