Say "yes" to the dress: save the date for the first Prom Expo Fashion Show, on March 24.
The Prom Expo Fashion show, Saturday March 24 at 6pm, will showcase dresses from five boutiques around Rhode Island with proceeds benefiting Invisible Children, an international non-profit organization, according to Laura Sarlitto, the East Greenwich-based photographer and founder of the event.
Fashion show and auctions
Not only will the event feature a fashion show highlighting the latest trends in prom fashion, according to Sarlitto, but a silent auction will allow girls to purchase their dresses the night of the show. Boutiques include Sassy and Classy, Zuzu’s Petals (both in East Greenwich) Sonya’s and Ray Gardner Designs in Cranston, and Chameleon’s in Wakefield. To add even more sparkle, Alex and Ani has generously donated items to be raffled off as their contribution to the cause. Sassy and Classy will also be donating a prom dress to raffle and Sarlitto's business, Laura Ink Photography, will be raffling a photo shoot. All raffle proceeds will go to Invisible Children.
Invisible Children
Invisible Children supports providing shelter, counseling, and education for child soldiers throughout Africa, said Sarlitto, who first became acquainted with the organization when she was a student at East Greenwich High School. "I was a part of a group that used to raise money for them, in 2007 and 2008," she said. "The cause is incredibly important to me, for no reason other than it touches my heart and want to help in any way I can. I wanted to use what I love to do to help the cause - hence, a fashion show, hosted by my freelance photography business."
Lois Hollingsworth owner of Zuzu’s Petals in East Greenwich, has called this show a “new spin to any other fashion show [she has] participated in in Rhode Island.” Tickets are $5 and are currently on sale. Anyone interested in purchasing a ticket can email Sarlitto at laurainkphoto@yahoo.com. For more information, go to www.wix.com/laurainkphoto/fashionshow. "All donations are graciously accepted towards the cause." said Sarlitto.
