TEA!
My tea collection is forever growing. As you learnt last night, I purchased two new teas during my most recent shopping trip with the girls.
I adore tea…
Tea in the morning with my breakfast.
(that was my breakfast this morning. mmm so good. I was craving pancakes!)
Tea when I study.
Tea at school in my trusty travel tea press!
Tea at the mall.
(this was from today. a trip to the mall = the prefect study break IMO!)
Tea before bed.
(this was taken last night before I went to bed. I sure wish there was a clock in the picture… I was in bed at 9:00! I was extremely tired all day yesterday!?)
Tea, tea, tea <3
Like I said, you can never have too much
Recently, I took tea to a whole other level, though.
I did something entirely new to me. I cooked with it. I cooked with tea! And it was fabulous.
It all started when I woke up for breakfast in the mood for something vanilla-y, nutty, creamy, and warm….
This seemed pretty perfect.
And it was even more perfect cooked with my steel cut oats and some almond milk!
First, I cooked my oats in 1 cup of tea
Second, I added almond milk because almond milk makes everything better <3
Like always, the almond milk made my oats extra rich and creamy, but the tea… wow. The oats definitely took on the wonderful flavour of the tea I used. My bowl of oats was unlike any other bowl I have had before <3 Just what the taste buds were asking for
When cooking your oats in tea, it even smells amazing! You must try out this method for yourself!
Since cooking my oats with tea was such a success, I thought I would take things even further…
Why not braise my chicken in tea!?
First, I began by making tea in a deep pan on my stove. This time, instead of using the vanilla nut creme flavour, I used Mom’s Apple Pie flavour from DAVIDsTEA.
I thought chicken would go well with apple flavour
I used three cups of water and two tea bags. Once the tea was made (water came to boil) and, I added the chicken to the tea.
The kitchen was so fragrant of apple It was amazing and so exciting!
I braised the chicken until the internal thermometer read 165 degrees F. I had no idea whether the chicken would actually take on a strong flavour of the tea or not!?
I knew that when I was about to try the chicken, I needed to incorporate it into a dish that wouldn’t mask it’s flavour. So, I put it into a salad!
Today, I enjoyed my tea braised chicken atop a beautifully coloured salad
chopped spinach, red cabbage, carrots, and lima beans tossed in walnut oil (my all time favourite oil!) and tea braised chicken.
I am so happy to announce that the chicken did take on the flavour of the tea Not just mildly either. It is a very obvious apple flavour It was so tasty!
I enjoyed it so much that the chicken is all gone!
I guess I will have to make some more with all of that chicken I bought this weekend! (and test out new tea flavours, too! Although, the apple was very good with the chicken)
Have you ever cooked with tea?
If you were to cook your chicken in tea, what flavour of tea would you pair it with? Next time, I want to use my ginger tea
