Chatting with Chey

February 7, 2012 by Cheysuli · 23 Comments

spacer Today, I’d like to do something a little bit different. You know when everything hit with Ichiro and the Woman wasn’t sleeping more than a few hours a night and getting cranky, Merlin’s person stepped in and offered some advice. She asked some questions the Woman hasn’t been asked in the course of Pet Communication before and both she and our vet were intrigued.

I hopped over to Merlin’s to chat with him more about his human.  After sniffing the air and having a few snacks, we decided we’d talk while touring the garden.  I felt all Barbara Walterish as we chatted.  I was a little worried that as I channeled my inner Barbara that I might make Merlin cry but we had no major scenes.

We got the preliminaries over with. Merlin’s human talks to pets.  And she tells their humans what we tell her (so be careful what you say, no matter what she tells you the interview you have with her is NOT confidential!).

“So Merlin, what do people most want to know about?”

“According to my mom, Layla’s  experience…What the humans most want to know re: their pets is 1) Health (physical/emotional) 2) Relationship/bonding dynamic with the pet and other pets or the pet(s) and one of more people.”

“No one asked me if I wanted to talk to your Mom.  Do cats resent this interference?” I ask, pulling no punches, just like Barbara.

“ It depends. Cats usually like when quality of their life improves but some are more grateful than others. Some don’t like any new changes. Like their human counterparts; there are aways those who resist change. Cat do like the fuss and attention of their humans seeking professional help. Everyone whether you have two or four legs likes being appreciated,” Merlin said.

“My human was really intrigued with the Feng Shui questions your human asked us.  Can you tell us more?”

“Layla suggests all humans get down close to the ground for a cat’s view of their space. See what we see: the dust balls under the bed, bits of debris behind the sofa, stinky toilet bowls, moldy dark corners, dirty laundry. It’s not a pretty picture. No wonder we like jumping on to clean table tops and counters! We have such sensitive noses we can smell everything. We don’t like artificially scented things, chemical household cleaning products or even vinyl and some plastics.”

“Clutter is another big feng shui no no. Whether it’s our cat toys or your mess, keep them clean and organized. Cats naturally know how to go with the flow. Having a clean organized space allows for more positive ch’i or life force to flow. Many of the principles of feng shui follow common sense and not woo woo magic,” Merlin explained.

“So she does this to help humans get in tune with the cats world?” I ask.

“Cats are naturally in tune with nature and crave connection with the outdoors. It’s why indoor only cats sit at the window eager to catch the sun’s rays or window whiffies. We’re lucky that we get to go outside in our large garden but wish those humans wouldn’t snoopervise us so much! Nothing beats rolling on (and nibbling) fresh organic grass, soaking up the sun, scratching claws on tree roots and the ultimate treat: sniffing every bush, tree, crevice, rock and the earth of mother nature.” Merlin said.

Unlike some cat people, my human has also studied Feng Shui as an acupuncture student.  She got some elective credit.  The style she is most familiar with is different from that of Merlin’s human.  My human recently read a book that about creating soul spaces.  Although no Feng Shui cures or terminology is used, the spirit of the book is in harmony with Feng Shui basics and it is a good introduction to the sorts of changes Feng Shui seeks to make.

“So can you give me an example of when working with Feng Shui helped a pet?”

“Most involve correcting the placement of the three most important objects for a cat: food/water bowl, cat litter and their bed or place that they sleep. Surprisingly common, is the error of placing a litter box too close to the feeding station. Ideally they should be in separate rooms or at least opposite ends. The worst situation I’ve corrected was a cat bed positioned next to a mirrored wall with two poison arrows from abutting columns. Sleeping opposite any mirror does not promote restful sleep and it’s no wonder this cat refused to sleep in her very expensive bed. Once the bed was relocated and soft drapery camouflaging the columns and mirror, the energy radically shifted and the cat was happy.”

“You know, I myself feel that I am a Feng Shui correction.”

“Chey, is of course correct about improving the feng shui of any room by her mere presence. As the old English saying goes, “A house without a cat is not a home.” Cats can neutralize bad chi and love geopathic stress. Gris Gris loves squeezing into our antique Chinese armoire outfitted with TV etc. and gazillion wires and electrical mayhem!”

“I knew it.”

So it is Cat Appreciation Month.  Perhaps you should show your cat how much you appreciate them by having Merlin’s person tell them?  Or at least get you to see things your cat’s way and realize they’re right and you’re not listening.

Meezer Mancat Monday

spacer I love upside down. Don’t you?  I like to scratch the upper part of the post while I lie on my back.  Mom gets mad cause as soon as she moves I jump up to follow her so it’s hard to get a photo of me doing upside down.

I say that’s my mysterious side.  What do you think?

Sunday Guests: Pixel, Samba & Everyone

February 4, 2012 by Cheysuli · 14 Comments

spacer Well I didn’t have far to go and everyone really seemed to know where I was.  I was pretty impressed.  Pixel and Samba were the first to be there (and are showing off how happy I am to have everyone find me).  They said, “Are you home?”

Several cats noticed that the house is painted in Meezer  Colors.  And well it should be.  The Woman didn’t realize that until it was pointed out. Until then she was bummed that she did not get a green and brown house as those were the colors she liked the best.  Unfortunately the builder had the community planned and we did not get to pick what colors went on the outside of the house.  Right now the Woman isn’t sure why as it seems that the designer for this subdivision likes brown brown and more brown.  Not one house has the nice green from the subdivision next door (same builder and finishing as ours started–but it had no more lots for the floor plan we liked.)

We do like that the house faces north/northeast.  This means that we will have lots of bright light in the back yard for planting a garden.  It probably won’t be much this year as there is some structural stuff the humans want to do but next year I bet we can go wild with veggies. I might even try growing broccoli for my friend Roxy!

Also, when the Woman is in the living room in the back and in the master bedroom in the back you can see the sunsets over the valley because we are up high enough.  Also the angle of our house looks between the houses in the subdivision behind us so our view is pretty unobstructed.  Now if only we get some birds back around here so I have something to look at!

Derby and Ducky wondered why the cars weren’t in the garage.  Because the humans haven’t even organized the house much less started on the garage!  Probably by summer they will get the cars in the garage.  There is a workbench that needs to be built and some ceiling racks that the Male wants to get up before he starts putting the cars inside.  Then he can arrange to his hearts content.

Chey is Looking At You

January 31, 2012 by Cheysuli · 19 Comments

spacer Why yes, I can see you.  This here is my office.  Well there’s a litter box in her so draw your own conclusions.

And the day this was taken, it was cold out.  I mean snowing cold.  The Woman wanted me to come out and explore.  Yeah right.  You can see that I’m not exactly running to her can’t you?  This was as close as I wanted to get.  And I was staying out of the draft she was letting in.

Fortunately now it’s just raining again.  Like always.  But then this is Seattle.  How would people know they were in Seattle if it didn’t rain?

Did you know next month is Cat Appreciation Month?  Yep.  I’m hoping to be more appreciated, though I have no doubt my hopes will be crushed. As March is my birthday month I’m thinking it should be Chey appreciation month.

Tabby Tuesday

January 30, 2012 by Cheysuli · 20 Comments

spacer Do I look a little annoyed in this photo?  Well look below at what I have to put up with. It’s bad enough he shares my cat tree but he is sharing my Tabby Tuesday.   The other day I was sitting on the perch above his and I had a fur ball because Mama has not been good about brushing me like she should be.  Anyway I started yakking and you know how sometimes you spit up a little before the furball comes out?  Well that happened and it landed on Ichiro so he looked up at me startled and leaped off the cat tree as I yakked up the furball.

It would have served him right if the furball had landed on him, don’t you think?  Especially after what he did to me this morning.

I was in the bathroom with Mama and so was he.  And he got to close to me so I looked him in the eye and he started playing with the door like he does.  I wanted to go out but he was sitting in front of the open area of the door.  I glared at him strongly.  And I started to walk through.  He swatted at me!!! Can you imagine?  Well I stopped right there and looked him in the eye.  He backed up.  So I walked forward and cornered him while he sat there starting at me.  Then I turned and sauntered through the door.  It is the only way to handle a boy.

Mancat Meezer Monday

January 29, 2012 by Cheysuli · 21 Comments

spacer Well here I am cuddling with Chey. I like to do that sometimes.  Sometimes she even lets me.  Mom had to get a photo because we were so nice and snuggled and I wasn’t even trying to sit on her or anything.  I mean I don’t always want to sit on her head. Just mostly.  Is it my fault she has a comfy head?

I am still talking at night but it is later in the wee hours of the morning now.  I mean if Mom didn’t want to sleep past 4:30 it wouldn’t be a problem. I mean isn’t that the time when you should start to play too?!
