The "Unplugged" Idea, 5th Year Anniversary!
ISTE Unplugged is a series of events that take place in, around, and with the support of the annual ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) conference, the "world's premier educational technology event (formerly the National Educational Computing Conference, NECC). Each year nearly 20,000 enthusiastic ed tech professionals and corporate representatives from around the globe unite for five days of professional learning, collaboration, and hands-on demonstration of the best new technologies for the classroom, school, or district."
And each year hundreds of educators interested in social media. technology, and teaching and learning build and participate in "unplugged"-style activities as a part of their ISTE experience. All of these events are free and do not require signing up anywhere, so just come join us (you do need to be registered for ISTE for all activities except SocialEdCon, which is open to anyone)! And a HUGE thanks to ISTE for making this all possible!
Saturday, June 23rd - SOCIALEDCON: SocialEdCon (formerly EduBloggerCon) is the flagship event of ISTE Unplugged and draws 200 - 300 participants from around the world. This is our FIFTH year! An all-day actual "unconference" on teaching and learning in the Web 2.0 world, we start by building a session schedule together and then spend the rest of the day in engaged conversations around amazing topics. More information.
Saturday, June 23rd Evening - EDINCUBATOR: A brand new event this year, we'll give ed tech start-ups and educators with start-up ideas a chance to present and share their concepts, as well as a chance to mix and mingle with each other. More Information.
Sunday, June 24th Afternoon - GLOBAL EDUCATION SUMMIT: Also a first-time event, the Global Ed Summit is a 3-hour mini-conference for those interested in globally-connecting students and teachers, and a physical followup to the hugely popular online Global Education Conference. More Information.
Monday, June 25 - Wednesday, June 27th - THE BLOGGERS' CAFE: Also in it's FIFTH year now, the Bloggers' Cafe is an informal, couch-chairs-floor gathering area in the conference center for bloggers, social media mavens, and anyone else who wants to find and connect with others. A beehive of constant activity and conversation, the Bloggers' Cafe makes it hard to go do anything else once you discover it. More Information.
Monday, June 25 - Wednesday, June 27th - ISTE LIVE: Also slightly re-branded for this year, ISTE Live is a three-day alternate presentation venue inside the conference where anyone can sign up to present on a topic that might not have been current when proposals for the conference were due, or maybe even a topic that didn't get accepted to the main conference! These sessions are also streamed live to those not able to physically attend ISTE. More Information.
To be Scheduled - EdApps Meetup: This gathering to share and trade smartphone/tablet/computer app favorites will be schedule to coincide with a birds-of-a-feather meeting when they are announced. More Information.
