It all started as a chore. Growing up in a household where a domestic help is a no-no, this mommy-chef-wannabe is assigned to do the cooking after arriving from school. With just an instruction written on a piece of paper and the ingredients readied and thawed, she managed to prepared everyday’s supper. Weekends were not exempted, because she was always tagged along in the weekly marketing. She was taught on the basic do’s and don’ts of buying fresh fish, chicken, pork etc and was introduced to the different kinds of vegetables, ingredients and so alike. Mommy-chef-wannabe was exposed more to food preparation process because of her Grandmother, who is a superb cooked. She would always bothered her Lola with questions on how you do that, what’s the next step, and so on. As the demands from school took more of her time, she was excused from the kitchen to better focus on her study. It was only after college graduation that she was able to explore the kitchen again.
She enjoyed preparing weekend meals. Ventured also in baking ready mixed brownies and breads. Her family became the guinea pic of her cooked meals . She started collecting recipes from magazines and watched cooking shows in TV. When she had her own family, cooking was set again on the side since they were just sharing roof with her in-laws. Taking care of the baby and working 6 days a week also took most of her time. She just relied and contented herself by watching cooking shows every Sunday like that from Henny Sison’s Taste of life, Del Monte Kitchenomics, True Confections, 20 minutes with Chef Rose Bud, etc.
Moving-out from in-laws place and living on their own, marked the start of her continuous conquered of the kitchen. Since domestic help was again out of the list, it’s all up to mommy-chef-wannabe to deliver healthy and delicious food at her family’s dining table. With internet, cable, recipe books, magazine articles and other resources, life was more easier for her. Just a click on Mr. Google, then whatever recipe she needed to know would be available instantly. She started also to relived her baking stint. YouTube videos and different articles around the net helped her in successfully baking her baby boy’s 1st year birthday cake.
Mommy-chef-wannabe then started to longed for a formal education in culinary. But the fees of culinary school were sky-high and very impossible for her pocket. Her family, specially her better-half is very supportive of her desire to enter culinary school. Then from nowhere and with GOD’s will, an opportunity was open for her to finally availed a 12-day course training on professional cooking. It’s indeed a blessing and mommy-chef-wannabe cannot contained her happiness.
She still has a long-long way to go, many things to learn and skills to master. Her plans after this journey is not yet defined, what matters most at this moment is for her to grasp all the knowledge that formal training will give and, balance time between work, domestic duties and other responsibilities and at the same time enjoying her self to the max.
