How do you keep a child safe from cops?

Ok when I was a kid I watched this movie and was completely perplexed by the Amish.

What are my thoughts after rewinding and reviewing?

Well, it is a fairly formulaic crime film. But, what makes it interesting is the setting and the contrasts of the child, who is raised in a non violent society, who witnesses a violent crime. That in itself is an interesting concept however, add to it the standard cops gone bad and the fish out of water scenario and it fleshes out to still be a palatable movie.

The whole fish out of water aspect does manage to bring a few laughs and in addition there is a palpable tension between Rachel (Kelly McGillis) and Book (Harrison Ford) that is never fulfilled but, really there is no way that there could have been a satisfactory resolution of that tension.

The moments of mirth actually are the source of some of my favourite lines.
Eli Lapp:
You never had your hands on a teat before
.
John Book:
Not one this big

Keep an eye out for: Viggo Mortensen! He plays Moses a member of the Amish community.

Hey Guys

You may be wondering where are the new reviews.

Well I had been so wrapped up in my retro trip that I had been missing out on some of the new movies out on the BIG screen.
So just as I was trying to enlighten you the reader about some terrific movies from the past I thought it was a good idea to do the same with myself but for new stuff.

I promise some fresh reviews about some not so fresh movies very shortly.

Thanks for being patient!

Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?

Ok so the above quote is not from this movie but, it suits it perfectly.

People generally categorise this movie as horror however, I tend to group it in the genre of thriller.

When I first saw this movie it scared the crap out of me. Mainly because there are only a few deaths on screen and my very young and fertile imagination.

What do I think after rewinding and reviewing?

The movie has chops as a thriller but, now that I am not so young my imagination has given way to critical thought. It is a great movie stylistically however, the plot requires a suspension of your beliefs.

If you are a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (tv show not the movie), Charmed, Supernatural and similar shows then you will have no trouble enjoying this movie.

For me the two stand out scenes are the revelation scene where John Hobbes (Denzel Washington) realises that all is not as it seems. In addition there is a fairly surreal chase scene that when I was younger scared the crap out of me.

OK. So this movie has nothing that blows up, it has a slower pace than normal however, it is well worth a watch.

Keep an eye out for: It's a two for one this time. Aida Turturro and James Gandolfini! They play detectives in this movie and also acted as brother and sister in a little show called The Sopranos.

My two favourite quotes came from Jonesy (John Goodman)
Yeah, me too. Somebody is playing with my dick and it ain't me.
and
If it wasn't for pizza and other fine Italian foods, there would be no happiness.

Have you been naughty?

I almost skipped this movie purely because I am not a huge fan of Billy Bob Thornton.

Will true love conquer all?

When I first saw this movie I was entranced by the love story, mesmerised by the swordfights and annoyed by the little man who always said, "Inconceivable". Plus it was cool that Australia was mentioned in the film.

What would you do if eight years had gone by but, you hadn't aged?

Growing up this was one of the movies that I replayed over and over and ov- you get the drift.

What do you do when you have a showdown with a lion?

The first time I saw this movie it was making up numbers in a DVD rental deal. The reason I chose it? It has Seann William Scott. The reason I was going to avoid it? It was a straight to DVD movie.
