For Every Evil Under The Sun, There Is…

February 10, 2012

spacer spacer

“For every evil under the sun, there is a remedy or there is none. If there be one, seek till you find it. If there be none, never mind it.”

Photographed this Mother Goose quote (yes, I Googled it) on Sansom street, near 16th, the other day… It’s already painted over, but it was good while it lasted.

I’m generally not a huge fan of tagging, but this is so well done, in my opinion. Even in just the minute or two I stood there to photograph it, at least six people stopped to read along with me, laughing, smiling, then trotting off back to their offices slightly more cheerful.

For every evil under the sun, there is . . . well, why not just ask @LIESinphila… wp.me/p1gwum-te

Inspiring a Bit of Positivity on Philly’s Streets with Papercut Doilies and ‘MORELOVE’

February 10, 2012

(Photos by Carina Giamerese for Side Arts)

Love, love, LOVE this!!

Started seeing these papercut doilies all over town a few weeks ago, but never had my camera when I did. Then today, the guy behind these awesome wheatpastes, Tim Gibbon, emailed me about his new project.

Tim, who, by the way, never went to school for any kind of art, said his recent wheatpasting projects are in response to the violence and negativity that plagues Philly. An after-school program coordinate for kids in North Philly, Tim added, “With my doilies and ‘MORELOVE’ wheatpastes I’ve been trying to flip that and inspire a bit of positivity. Sometimes seeing something surprising and beautiful can change your whole perspective.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Thanks to Tim for sending me these photos… Please feel free to check out his blog HERE. And be sure to stop by his Fun A Day show, opening tonight, at Studio 34 on 45th street at Baltimore avenue.

Damn, I know I say, “I love this,” a lot — and I always mean it — but I really do LOOOVE this!!

LOVE This: New Harlequinade Art on Spring Garden

February 8, 2012

spacer spacer spacer spacer spacer

A few of you were mad at me last week when we covered an old Harlequinade in Bella Vista that was already covered up by two DJ night flyers, resulting in a TON of comments and Tweets. We’ve since cleared the air with Harlequinade himself. And, go figure, just a few days later I found this fucking stunning new paste by the man.

LOVE this… Hats off to Harlequinade Art, hope I keep seeing more of your stuff around!!

Pretty sure this (the face) is also the work of Lny… Busy man this week. Be sure to check out his new pastes in Kensington and Northern Liberties!!

Love his stuff… So intricate/powerful. Leaves me staring at it for a bit, trying to take it all in. (Less with this particular paste, I suppose, but go click on the other links.)

HUGE New Nom Now in NoLibs

February 6, 2012

spacer spacer spacer spacer

No one’s worked on this wall in a while… I wonder why? For a long time it seemed it had a new piece every few days. Maybe it’s just because it’s winter.

Either way, even the cold didn’t stop Nom Now from putting up this killer piece on 2nd street in Northern Liberties… Great job, guys. It looks awesome!!
