ShowClix Welcomes Pittsburgh Ticketing Engineers

spacer As a growing tech company, we’re always looking for good ideas and the people who have them, so last night we opened our doors (and our beers) to welcome some of the city’s brightest software engineers.

Over snack trays and a keg, our own engineering team met with the newbs in our ClixCafé to discuss software, tickets, and working at ShowClix.

Will we see any of these friendly faces again in the coming weeks? Only 01110100011010010110110101100101 will tell.

SongKick Lists Music Events on Spotify

spacer

In a major announcement today for the Stockholm-based streaming music cloud, Spotify debuted its own app market, Spotify Apps. As a response to criticisms of the platform’s previously barebones discovery system, Spotify revealed new integration with major music/social media crossover Last.FM, as well as several more traditional music cred heads like Rolling Stone and Pitchfork.

Additionally, the application now features a concert and ticket listing app from live music SongKick:

Similar to our iPhone application, our Spotify application will scan your Library on Spotify and figure out which bands you’re listening to and give you an calendar, right within Spotify that shows all the concerts for artists you love, and finds you the cheapest tickets to the show. [via SK Blog]

The update is big news for both music fans and concert promoters, since ticket prices will be available within the app on Spotify itself. As Spotify Apps gain ground with the subscription service’s growing community of users, this integration could prove to be an innovative avenue for connecting new fans with live music at venues around the country.

Other apps announced today for Spotify include U.S. chart-reporting chart-topper Billboard, as well as TuneWiki, a site that posts lyrics without the skeezy pop-up spam of many ad-riddled lyrics resources.

Facebook Implements Less Awkward Event RSVPs

spacer Whether it’s a birthday blowout 400 miles away or “The Solid Dudes’ Last Show EVER!” we’ve all had to click “Not Attending” on a Facebook event.

Maybe a wedding RSVP would add “regretfully,” but it’s still polite enough, right?

Well, it’s not. In effect, non-attendees are proudly — and only sometimes unintentionally — announcing “Nah, I’m good, thanks dude.”

When “Not Attending” counts creep dangerously close to the “Attending,” your event page starts to look less and less appealing to new invitees. Facebook has attempted to address this awkward position with a new update to event pages, a mock-up of which is displayed above:

Facebook has modified its Event pages to hide people who explicitly decline invitations. You can still find out who couldn’t just be cordial and leave the invitation pending by drilling into the renamed “Going”, “Maybe” and “Invited” categories. Facebook’s goal is likely to get more people accurately responding to invitations by making them feel less rude for declining.

Facebook also rolled out a few other refinements to Event pages tonight. If you do decline an invitation, you’ll be prompted to post why on the Event’s wall. This encourages the token invites people send to friends thousands of miles away. These token invites are viewed as needless distractions by some, though others think they are cute ways to remind people you’re thinking of them. [via TechCrunch]

The update is a welcome sign for anyone who’s ever dealt with passive-aggressive statements like “So I saw you’re ‘Not Attending’ Jeremy’s tap dance recital this weekend…”

But will it have an effect on the people who promote events on Facebook, especially on a professional level?
