Marvel Collections Added to Comixology

News Posted by Raymond Padilla, January 27th, 2012

Marvel "Collections" are now available through the Comics by Comixology app. The digital equivalent of trade paperbacks, these Marvel Collections offer great value to readers that want to buy entire story lines instead of individual issues. While these Marvel Collections are certainly cheaper than buying single issues through Comixology, are they cheaper than physical books? Read on to find out.

Generally speaking, the digital collections are cheaper than the list prices for physical books and around the same as the street prices. For example, the Planet Hulk trade paperback lists for $34.99 but is available through Amazon for $23.09. The digital collection price through Comixology is $24.99.

Using another example, the outstanding Marvels by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross lists for $24.99 and has an Amazon price of $16.49. The Comixology price for the digital collection is $15.99. The 10 individual issues are available digitally for $1.99 each.

The sweet thing about Comixology is that you can start reading seconds after you buy, making it brilliant for impulse purchases. There's something to be said about not having to drive to a store or wait for an item to ship. The dangerous thing is that it's way too easy to spend a lot of money on great comic books in a couple of minutes.

Marvel Collections on Comixology is fantastic for Marvel fans that rock an iPad or Android tablet. Unfortunately for DC fanboys, DC Comics digital collections are currently exclusive to the Amazon Kindle Fire. I'm dreaming of the day DC and Marvel digital collections will be available to read on the gorgeous iPad 3 Retina Display. That's going to rule.

Any of you buy any Marvel Collections through Comixology? How are you enjoying the digital trade paperback experience?
