Haunted Albany Oregon

Located south of the capital of Oregon, Albany has a few haunted tales to tell. I had no idea that the place had its fair share of hauntings in public places. There were two of them that I found interesting. Both of them interested me since I have visited both places.

First up is the site of the Albany Cinemas. They are part of the Regal Cinema chain and I go there often to see movies. The place is suppose to be haunted. According to the story, in the late 1970's a farmhouse next door to the theater complex was torn down to expand the cinema building. The two screens that were added are reported to be haunted. There is suppose to be a ghost of a small dog seen in the aisles and of lights moving across the floor. I don't remember experiencing anything odd when I go there but heck, in the dark and enjoying a good movie I would be hard pressed to be distracted. I'll ask the people who work there if they have heard of the ghost dog the next time I go to the movies.

Next is the Hereford Steer Restaurant. That place was reported to be haunted by the dead owner of the restaurant. He was reportedly shot by police. The story goes on to report that the former owner liked to play pranks on the people visiting the restaurant. But here is the problem, the story is a fake. The owner of the Hereford Steer Restaurant died in April 2011. He opened the restaurant in or around 1976 and it closed in 1997. The restaurant was torn down by the property owner in 2002 - it is still a vacant lot. I could find no local stories to back up the claims of the haunting.

So here is a lesson for all you would be investigators out there - don't believe everything you read online and if you do find something interesting try to find out the real truth.

Why entertainment TV shows about ghosts have destroyed credibility of true hauntings

There are many TV shows that have ruined the credibility of scientific research into the paranormal. The main one that comes to mind is "Most Haunted" a British based TV show that is suppose to "investigate" haunted locations. The show was canceled last year (2010) after 8 years on the air. The viewers finally figured out that most of it was faked, including the acting.

There are several videos on YouTube showing the main people on Most Haunted being rude to their fans and shouting down anyone who does not believe them. Other places like digitalspy have message forums that ripe with angry former fans that became sick and tired of the antics of Yvette and crew.

Another show has taken the time slot in England where Most Haunted was previously. This show claims to be more "scientifically" based..........we shall see. Since I am located in the USA, I have to wait and see if it gets picked up by one of the cable channels, otherwise we have "Ghost Hunters" and Ghost Hunters International" both have big budgets for new gadgets and equipment, both of which was lacking on Most Haunted.

I think that I quit watching Most Haunted when they started that old parlor trick with the tipping tables and the Ouija board came out. Scientific research was replaced by voodoo, superstitions and bad acting.

Yes, shows like that can quickly make ghost hunting into a joke. I am glad to see that it is off the air.
