Last night, twago was the proud recipient of the German Diversity Prize 2011 for the most diverse employer in Germany for small to medium sized companies. The ceremony for the German Diversity Prize, awarded by McKinsey, Henkel and Wirtschaftswoche (Economics Weekly), was held at the Langen Foundation, Neuss (near Dusseldorf).

The award was given to companies, organisations and individuals who were recognized for their contribution to fostering a diverse working environment within Germany.

“We are extremely proud as a start-up to be awarded this prestigious prize“ said Gunnar Berning, founder of twago. The Berlin start-up was awarded the prize alongside Angela Merkel, Google and BASF.

Barbara Schöneberger moderated the evening and awarded the prizes whilst the jury consisted of Frank Matten, McKinsey Germany CEO, Henkel-CEO Kasper Rorsted, ex-Bundestag President Prof. Dr. Rita Süssmuth and Roland Tichy, chief editor from Wirtschaftswoche (Economics Weekly).

The judges were convinced of twago’s diverse working culture, “diversity should not simply be forced on a company, but should rather form a fundamental part of the company’s working culture”, Roland Tichy commented. This view fitted perfectly with the twago concept. “Diversity is no quota for us, diversity simply makes us better. We need the best colleagues to maintain our 27% monthly growth rate, regardless of whether they are male or female, German, Italian, Spanish or British”, Berning explained.

“We don’t just talk about diversity, we live it on a daily basis”spacer Berning continued alluding to the topical political discussions on the issue. Thirty-six employees from eleven different countries work at twago and half of the workforce is female. These are just some of the reasons why twago was chosen for this award. For twago, the award is a confirmation that we should continue with our unique and motivating concept. We would like to thank everyone that has supported us along the way and are already looking forward to the German Diversity Prize 2012.
