Pioneering the use of simulation; A word from TRAZER’s inventor

Thank you very much for your interest in TRAZER®2!

More than a decade before the commercialization of consumer “exergaming” products, we were pioneering the use of simulation to improve health, fitness and physical and cognitive performance. Our interests, passions and objectives were, and continue to be, different from those of the gaming companies now developing video games involving movement.

Our development team had extensive professional expertise in simulation, exercise science, program design, medical instrumentation and equipment manufacturing, kinesthetic learning, as well as the practice of health care. Sports participation and the pursuit of fitness were, and remain passions of each team member.

It was this collective experience that made us so respectful of the healthcare adage: “If you can’t measure, you can’t manage.” Development of a tool for the measurement of previously immeasurable components of sport-specific/functional movement became a prime objective. The development of simulations, games and activities that delivered truly efficacious exercise experiences was another essential objective.

One personal story is illustrative of our experiences
Our medical director, Dr. Alan Davis, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon, and his two sons, Matt and Nathan, are longtime TRAZER® users. So are my two sons Barry Jr. and Neall. This brochure from November, 2000 has Nathan, Matt and Neall using the 1st generation TRAZER.

Matt went on to play two years with the Philadelphia Flyers hockey organization after an outstanding college career at Miami of Ohio. Nathan (in the 1st pic) was a high round draft choice for the Blackhawks (currently with the Blackhawks’ Ice Hogs) after a stellar college career also at Miami. For most of Nathan’s junior year, he led the entire nation in the voting for the Hoby Baker Award.

And my son, Barry Jr, played baseball at the College of William and Mary, and Neall (the 3rd pic) played three seasons with the New York Yankees’ organization as a catcher/first baseman.

Innumerable factors, of course, propel a young athlete to reach the professional level as did Nathan, Matt and Neall, but Dr. Davis and I truly believe that no testing and/or training method favorably compares to TRAZER®. We sincerely hope that TRAZER® can contribute to fulfilling your sports, fitness or health-related goals as well.

Sincerely,

Barry J. French

Barry has been awarded more than a dozen U.S. patents in the field. He has appeared on OPRAH ® with the Surgeon General and on numerous other national TV shows. He has been a consultant for the sports science group of the USOTC. TRAZER was the only fitness product to be displayed at the request of the Bush Administration at the G8 Tech Expo in 2004.
