The Incognito Mr. Saturn plush is a soft plush doll that was released in select arcades across Japan for a limited time. They are modeled after the innocent little aliens that appear in MOTHER 3, a role-playing game on the Game Boy Advance. They come with a handkerchief attached to them that can be removed and tied around the Mr. Saturn as a disguise.
The plushes were available in UFO catcher / crane game machines. They were first available in 2006 and again in 2009, both for a limited time. The cost of the plushes depended on how good the player was at the machines. These Mr. Saturns were manufactured and released by Banpresto, the company that has made most of the other Mr. Saturn plushes.
Background Information
Mr. Saturn is the official mascot of the MOTHER series in Japan. These aliens first appeared in MOTHER 2 / EarthBound and again in MOTHER 3. They live in a secluded valley, are very curious, and are smart enough to help put together ingenious inventions with Dr. Andonuts. This was the first Mr. Saturn plush made available inside UFO catcher machines in Japanese arcades. There was another Mr. Saturn plush released before this one, but that one came vacuum-sealed inside the MOTHER 1+2 art book.
There is no significant difference between the 2006 and 2009 versions of this plush. The only way to tell them apart is by looking closely at the tags. There are very small differences between the two tags and they each list the year they were released.
Critical Reception
Since these were the first plushes released by themselves in Japan, many fans scrambled to snatch them up. Though the MOTHER series is now getting some much-deserved attention in the way of merchandise, none of the plushes have ever been released outside of Japan. International fans go to great lengths to get their hands on this coveted merchandise.

The Incognito Mr. Saturn Plush is a wonderful representation of the Mother series' wacky mascot. The body is soft, the whiskers feel like whiskers, the bow is made of appropriate material and the bandanna fits nicely (or so I have seen, mine is still attached). I got mine when they were mainly only seen on Yahoo! Auctions Japan and I paid through the nose for middleman fees, but I don't regret it one bit. These are worth a lot less since a second wave was released, but I'm proud to own a Mr. Saturn from the first wave. For anyone who can't afford/find room for a giant Mr. Saturn plush, thinks the Mini Saturns are too small, and finds the ball-and-chain Saturn too sad, this is the perfect EarthBound plush.
