Landscape Photography of Dartmoor and Devon

Landscape Photography of Dartmoor and Photography Workshops by Alex Nail

Welcome to my landscape photography gallery of Dartmoor . I am a landscape photographer primarily capturing images of Dartmoor and Devon. Whilst the heart of my photography is on Dartmoor I also travel around UK national parks and wilderness areas in search of spectacular landscape photos.

Dartmoor is a beautiful and desolate landscape. Although the weather is often miserable on the moor, it can also be picture perfect! My landscape photography presents Dartmoor in the very best light through hundreds of hours camping hiking and photographing this unique wilderness. I am inspired to capture spectacular scenes through my artistry, hard work, planning and photographic technique.

I also naturally take a lot of photos of Devon on my travels around the moor. Dartmoor offers great views over Devon and the woodland and rivers often attract me.

I organise 1-on-1 landscape photography workshops on Dartmoor for all abilities and I regularly share my knowledge on-line. My pictures have also been featured in numerous websites, magazines and publications.

I am really passionate about landscape photography and it has given me a love of Dartmoor, Devon and UK wilderness areas that I try to capture in my images!

January 23, 2012:  FAQ #1 – Colour, Shutter speed, Aperture

I get questions from other photographers from time to time asking me anything from what camera to buy to how to take an image. I thought it might be useful to post them up here, or at least I might as well! I’ve recently got into photography after purchasing my first DSLR which I use [...]

December 8, 2011:  Tavy Cleave – Dartmoor Locations #2

Tavy Cleave is one of Dartmoor’s finest landscape photography locations. A beautiful river with numerous rapids and towering tors above. This is not a location to miss!

November 19, 2011:  Are Gitzo Tripods Unstable?

An occasional consideration for the landscape photographer is the likelihood of their tripod blowing over in the wind. This has so far only happened to me once, but I have heard of this issue many times before. The likelihood of a tripod tipping over is related to the strength of the wind and the cameras [...]

November 8, 2011:  Winter Workshops

This year for the first time I will be offering winter workshops on Dartmoor. The light, clarity of the air, and shorter days all lend themselves to landscape photography, not to mention the enticing potential to photograph in the snow!
