ABOUT
Hi there, my name’s Charlie Visnic and I work as an editor for the motion picture industry. My daytime is spent editing publicity materials for a few of the studios but mostly Disney. I still consider myself an aspiring filmmaker yet my “interests” (aka. faint obsessions) tend to regularly jump from place to place. Three common factors tie my interests together; Film, Sound and Technology.

“The B-Roll” is an alias, artist name and all around concept for my creative endeavors. If you’ve never heard of B-Roll this might help you. It’s an editing term. It’s the cover footage for the skeleton of your final film, The “Cut To” stuff. It’s something that I’ve been working with daily, M-F, for the past 10 years. It seemed like a proper label for just about anything that I do. And that brings us to the purest sense of the concept, this blog.
The assignment is: Do something creative at least once a day and document it. I was inspired to take on this challenge by another person who has been doing this same thing for a year all ready. His name is Marcus Fischer, aka. mapmap online, here’s his site. My goal is to find myself at the end of this first year feeling creatively agile. Like a ninja of creativeness. I hope it leads me to new experiences and opportunities. It seems to me like the perfect exercise for the type of artist I’d like to be.
Although, the challenge for me is two-fold because the first day of my blog will also be the first day of me being a non-smoker. I have been smoking since 96’ and I’m 33 years old (or at least I will be on March 8th, 2010 – the day this blog officially begins). I’ve quit previously for two of those thirteen years but this time will be the hardest for me. I can tell that all ready. Beyond the fact that I’m aging and my body can feel the effects of it I also have a one year old daughter that I’d like to stick around for.
My #1 reason to quit smoking
For those of you asking yourself if this is the kind of blog you’d like to follow, let me describe the types of things you might find here. Essentially this is a photoblog, so each post will be a photo of something related to my project of the day. You might commonly find audio recordings posted. I am an avid Monome user as well as the owner of an analog euro-rack modular, which is my second baby. I love shooting and editing so you might see a bit of that as well. You’ll also probably get to know a little about me as a person and meet friends of mine through this process. Beyond all that, I’m pushing to broaden outward and experiment more in things I know very little about like construction, cooking and crochet to name just a few. My wife is looking forward to those last three, maybe not the crochet part so much.
Anyways, that is the gist, my internet friend. I appreciate your visits, comments and support.
