New work: Park City Magazine

February 16, 2012

This is a little editorial piece I did a while back for Park City Magazine, art directed by Thomas Cobb (a great guy to work with!). The article was about a family friendly bike cruiser ride where the neighborhood sets up a big festival around it. Street BBQs, musicians, local food. Sounds fun! (This might look a bit familiar because I modified this artwork for a print in my shop!)

artwork that’s inspiring me

Colin and I actually got out for a date for First Friday (when all the galleries open their doors and you can do an art stroll through the city). We came across this beauty in one of the spaces. The artist is Jarod Charzewski, and this piece is titled “What Land Will Take”. It just blew me away, really. The idea. The colors. Beautiful art that makes you think. Gotta love.

And I couldn’t help but think: none of those clothes would see a landfill if I had anything to do with it. I so heart thrifting and repurposing (I have another post about this idea going… will share when it’s finished).

Check out more inspiring work by Jarod Charzewski here on his site.

print and packaging recommendations

February 7, 2012

hi.

So Lindsay asked in a comment about recommendations for where to make archival prints and where to find packaging for those prints. And I thought maybe more of you might like to know. Hence this short post about it.

First off: archival prints. For years now I’ve gone through IO Labs, inc for all my prints. When I had my first print run done back in… 200?, they just knocked it out of the park. Vibrant colors. Perfect texture. Substantial archival paper. And I’ve been pleased with the quality each and every time since. My new prints were produced by IO Labs also. I print on their Hahnemühle German Etching 310 g/m2, which I love. Their turnaround time is great, and their techs can help you with decision-making if necessary. You can also get each print slipped neatly inside its own glassine envelope for a little additional charge. This further helps protect against dust, smudges and grunge from handling. A plus in my book.

And packaging. I’ve researched lots of packaging options and keep coming back to Uline. They sell in bulk and the envelopes that I buy are made out of recyclable cardboard. They self-seal, too. So no yucky licking. And they’re super sturdy… it’s hard to bend them (so prints stay nice). And lastly, they can be re-used by my buyers, which I also like for obvious-eco-reasons. Good stuff.

Hope that helps, Lindsay!

I’m grateful for the kind old man at the farmers market who snips the ends off of the honey sticks for Veda.
