Exactly a year ago, I launched the blogsite Loving Carlo – Living With Autism in celebration with my brother’s
12th birthday. I originally aimed to promote autism awareness since majority of the Filipinos are don’t fully understand the situation of having a family member with this condition. Living with someone with autism is not like living in hell like the perception of most people. Living with them will actually make you appreciate and learn more about the realities of life based on my experience as a sister to an autistic child. I wanted to share my daily experiences living with him – the joys, the pain, the challenges, the fun.
Last February, my brother together with his Yaya Virgie went to England to be with my mom. I recorded some videos with him a week before his departure. I literally lived 12 years and 10 months of my life beside him. I became open-minded, independent and strong because of him. Being away from him is somewhat sad on my part, but I have to sacrifice. I know that he will be given the best education there and I guess it’s about time for him to spend more time with my mom and it’s also time for me to concentrate on my career and the things that I wanted to do.
Before he left, I thought of relaunching the Loving Carlo blog, which became inactive. I was too busy with school and other writing gigs that’s why I failed to maintain the blog. Since he’s about to leave me, I decided to start all over again and now with a new blog called “Missing Carlo”. I am now writing in this blog to share my own thoughts and at the same time this will be my outlet on everything related to Carlo. I just hope that this blog will make the readers understand and learn to embrace autism
Last August 11, 2008, Missing Carlo was recognized as one of the Top 10 emerging Influential Blogs of 2008 By Digital Filipino. The blog ranked at the 4th place.
