Combo #1, Hold the Cockroach

Aficionados of bad pseudo-Chinese food can now get their fill from a new service in Central called Chopsticks.

The Tsui Hang Village Restaurant offers “Chinatown-style Chinese cuisine” for expatriates missing such western-Chinese delicacies as Kung Pao chicken, American-style egg rolls, sweet-and-sour pork, and pan-fried egg omelettes.

They even throw in fortune cookies (which I’ve never seen a single Hong Kong restaurant serve) and pack the food in those cheesy takeaway boxes.

A restaurant staff member said:

We found a lot of expats want this Chinatown-style Chinese food. They miss the Chinese food from their own country.

Incredible. They move to Hong Kong, with its myriad and fascinating variations of Chinese cuisine, and eat dreck.

To each his own, but this just seems … wrong.

Now if someone would offer a club sandwich that didn’t look like it came out of a vending machine, that would be impressive.
