The many uses of lawn sprinklers

There are seven known sprinklers that most of the people would use for their gardens and they are the stationary sprinkler, pulsating sprinkler or impulse sprinkler, rotary sprinklers, travelling sprinklers, oscilatting sprinkler, pop up sprinklers and the mist sprayer sprinkler system.

Every one of these has a different purpose for the use in the garden or even small agricultural holdings.

The oscillating sprinkler sprays from multiple holes in a tube to cover up to a 4000 sq foot area and is most effective within an area that has a high water pressure.  Spray nozzle jets regulates the spray effect.  The standard pipes for these sprinklers are the pipes with 5/8 inch hose pipes.  The pressure of the water will be affected should thinner pipes be used for the sprinklers.

The travelling sprinklers are large self propelled sprinklers used to cover large irregular areas.  A tractor would be used to drag the cord to follow the pattern that the user has laid out.  Two arms similar to the rotary sprinkler are attached to the ends of the pipes.

Rotary sprinklers spray the water from the very tips of the arms on the sprinkler and the ability to have a mist spray or a jet spray could be achieved by adjusting the jet nozzles.  These sprinklers are used for smaller garden areas as the end of the tips rotate in circles to spray the water.spacer

Pulsating or impulse sprinklers operate with lower water pressure and could cover bigger areas than some of the other sprinklers.  The impulse sprinkler has a baffle plate that would regulate the height of the water spray and this is ideal to spray water under tree branches.  The diffuser pin regulates the spray from fine mist and should you need a stronger spray, you only need to take the diffuser pin from the mainstream.  The farmers would use the sprinkler system to attach it to a timer to spray areas where a normal hose pipe would be ineffective to use.

Stationary sprinklers are used for smaller lawns as the spray patterns in the top of the sprinkler head will allow you to regulate the area by letting more water spray over a fairly big lawn to reduce the water to spray in flower beds where you do not want too much of the pressure to damage the plants.

The one sprinkler system that has been mentioned quite extensively in some of the smallholders books are the pop up sprayer system with the heads that would pop up as soon as the water was opened and once the water is closed, the heads would drop down in the shaft that is normally placed in the ground.  The disadvantage of the pop up sprayers is that you could damage the heads when cutting the lawn if the right depth was not adhered to when installing the sprinkler system.

Mist sprayers are used in greenhouses to spray the flowers without damaging the plants itself.  These sprinklers are quite suitable for small gardens as well as you could cover the whole bed area with the mist spray and the need to have a long hose pipe would be reduced.
